Product Description

Product Description

One of Britain's hardest working bands, Dunfermline's Nazareth are road warriors par excellence. For four decades they have performed (in various line-ups, with two constants - bassist Pete Agnew and singer Dan McCafferty) in front of fervent audiences around the world and 2013 will witness yet another epic global trek to reach the faithful. Though successful with a variety of approaches, one constant has been their unimpeachable ability to rock out; to produce loud, proud tracks that satisfy their fans lust for sheer power, while remaining melodic and accessible. This collection brings together 18 of their finest heavy statements, including several hit singles, and proves that Nazareth can rock as hard and as well as any of their contemporaries. Drawing upon 35 years of material, it begins with their perennial concert opener, Telegram, takes in crunching highlights from their key 70s, 80s and 90s long players before resolving itself in the ominous The Gathering from the acclaimed 2008 album, The Newz. Current guitarist Jimmy Murrison has been with Nazareth for almost two decades now and it is to his enormous credit that tracks like The Gathering and Road Trip from The Newz and the live favourite Light Comes Down from Boogaloo (1998) are every bit as involving as the classic numbers that established Nazareth as one of Britain's finest purveyors of hard and heavy rock.

Salvo certainly know how to mine the Nazareth back catalogue!!!, We've had the box set, anthology, greatest hits, the singles collection and now this,Hard and Heavy, what next? the the Soft & Cuddly ballads collection?.

Having said that, once again its a superb package, the heavier tracks from the back catalog, several lesser known tracks from the albums such as 'Beggars Day/'Changin Times etc.its a great release,

Not surprisingly two thirds of the collection comes from the 70's,still their golden era,the 80's and 90's less so,surprisingly nothing from the last disc 'Big Dogz' although 'The Newz' gets 2.

Great sound quality as is the norm with the salvo remasters, hopefully no more colections, how about a retro live package?

If you love 'heavy rockin' Nazareth, then this is a no risk purchase.

Hats off to whoever compiled this collection as, and this has been mentioned in a previous review, there are countless Nazareth compilations available. This one seems to have carefully avoided for the most part tracks included on the other releases and does concentrate on the rockier side of the band, albeit including a few of the staple Nazareth tracks such as Hair Of The Dog and Razamanaz. Nicely packaged and with a low cost, this would be an ideal starting place for any rock fan interested in one of the more original of the British rock bands. Dan McCafferty still possesses the greatest vocal chords in rock and he is ably assisted throughout this collection by the various members who have lived (and some sadly died) throughout the 45 odd year career of the band. Only Pete Agnew remains the other constant but it is good to hear the invigorating sounds that the "new" members bring to the band on the later tracks taken from 2007`s "The Newz". A great collections and a superb soundtrack when driving !! Buy it.

I noticed that Naz were touring again and it bump started memories of their early albums that I owned but lost,so I looked through the albums available and read the reports on them. I them decided to plunge into "Hard and Heavy"...what a GREAT decision. Naz have several compilations available but forget them BUY THIS, you wont want amything else.and you wont regret it They have got together most of their best loud numbers.

This album is Nazareth at their best. Don't bother with any other 'best of..' issues out there. 'Hard 'N' Heavy' is the only compilation you need to hear the hardest working band in Rock n Roll.
