This book has so much packed into it making it a fast paced read that has you sucked in right till the very end, leaving you wanting more.
Crammed with mystery, romance, intrigue and suspense, along with a group of sexy ex-special forces soldiers attempting to clear their names making this book is awesome.
I really want Nick Rixey to tattoo me!
I loved the connection that Becca and Nick have and the way it grows in intensity as they work together to solve the Mystery of her missing brother. Nick and Becca are drawn to each other both fighting to do the right thing they have this wonderful push pull relationship that has you on the edge of will they wont they.
I adored Eileen so cute.
I found that as the team digs deeper into their quest for answers surrounding Charlie and the commander, they find themselves with more questions than answers. Leaving you as the reader devouring this book to see if the mystery's are uncovered, but in the end your left still panting for more of those answers and needing to read the next book to see how it all turns out!
A great read.
Becca's brother is missing, feared kidnapped and he's left her a cryptic message about her colonel father's old team mate. Becca heads to Hard Ink to find Nick Rixey. Nick wants nothing to do with the traitorous commander's daughter. But he can't leave it there.
I thoroughly enjoyed the plot, characters and writing. Great steam and chemistry. Looking forward to reading more from this series.
The storyline is strong, and will continue thoughout the series but I just could not connect with the characters. I need ROMANCE in romance novels and I just didn't get enough in this one.
Will I read the next one? Yes, in the hopes that there will be less suspense and more romance.
Becca Merritt is an ER nurse which straight away tells you she is a caring and nurturing kind of person so when he younger brother, Charlie, goes missing she will do everything she can to find him. Charlie has left a cryptic note which points her to the Hard Ink Tattoo parlour and Nick Rixey.
Nick Rixey has been through a year of hell after being betrayed by his ex CO. He and four of his band of Special Forces brothers are out of the army and six are dead. So he has kept himself to himself, working with his brother Jer at the parlour until that day Becca Merritt walks in asking for his help. He turns her down flat in no uncertain terms. How could he help the woman who happens to be the daughter of his double crossing CO? It was this part that teared me up - he was so darn harsh to Becca and I just felt for her all alone with no one to turn to.
But then Nick has this nagging doubt that won't go away so he sets up a recon outside her home and happens to be there when an intruder gets in her house. He then knows that something is off and decides to help her. To do that he needs to call in his brothers in arms which is going to be difficult as he had broken off all contact after their `discharge' all those months ago. As in all situations of brotherhood, the chain had not been broken and even though the first meetings were hostile they eventually get on the same page and set in place a plan of action to find out what had happened to Charlie and how this seemed to be linked to their removal from the army.
I loved Nick Rixey - he had everything I want in a hot alpha hero. He has the dark soulful eyes, the muscles, the tats (oh that dragon tat was awesome!), the stealth and so macho. Yay! *cheers with pompoms* I loved that he was ex-military and part of a band of brothers (ever since JR Ward's BDB that is always a plus for me in books) But he was also hiding a wound so deep that only a betrayal from someone you held in high esteem could deliver.
Becca was a joy to read as she was no weak and woeful woman. She went out for what she needed and took no nonsense from anyone, even Nick! She took everything in her stride and measured up in her head the right thing to do even when she was given a total cluster eff of information about her father. I LOVED the part where she went and thanked each of the men. Again with the tears!
The relationship build between Becca and Nick, although quick, was so raunchy and sizzling off the pages. You could feel the intense atmosphere with every look, touch and feel it was as if you were there (oh and in some parts I wish I was there playing the part of Becca LOL)
This book delivered marvellous depth and layers that all interlinked to give a read full of love, loyalty, friendship, danger, mystery and comedy. Yes comedy plays a great part in this book just when it is needed after a really heavy scene. Such as when Becca finds the puppy - a puppy with three legs which she takes home. Again this shows her nurturing side but it was the comedy element given with Nick, Jer and the guys naming the pup - Eileen (get it - three legs? I lean? LOL)
So would I recommend this book? Yes definitely if you love your books to give you a hot alpha military man, a kick ass woman, a band of brothers and a story of family and connection then yes you really need to read this. You, like I did, will love it.
Both the characters and the back story have such depth, you could very much wonder if this was a true story, even though we know its not.
Nick is the ultimate in sexy. An ex special forces man who is also a tattoo artist with a kind and loyal heart. It is not only an injury that causes him pain, but betrayal from his commander that he had trusted. I would love to gets my hands on this man thats for sure.
Becca is also a very strong individual. Its nice to have a female character than falls to pieces when things fall apart around her. When she needs to she can put everything aside and focus on what she needs to even if she is scared. The chemistry between both Nick and Becca was undeniably hot.
The other members of the Hard Ink team are also awesome. Jeremy is a cool brother and has a good sense of humour. The other members of Nicks team are a good bunch of guys even if they look intimidating and it was good to see the familiarity and loyalty they showed each other when they needed to, even if there was hostility between them at first.
I must admit, I'm gutted that I have waited so long to read this awesome-sauce book.
