Finally I think I figured out that the driver digital signature had expired in May 2014 (the driver that you download from the Hantek site fpr the 6022BE) I was trying to load it yesterday on July 11th, 2014. So I decided to to set my computer system date to March 1st 2014 and to my surprise, it allowed me to load the driver and the scope now works on my Windows 8.1 Also I was able to set my system date back to normal without any obvious adverse effects. Is there another way around the problems such as changing the digital signature date? I have no idea. I just know that what I did appears to work fine without any obvious nasty side effects.
The Hantek site is not great. I do think they need to establish a European/US presence especially if they want to dominate the market. As for the scope itself, for the price its excellent. I bought it as a replacement to an old tektronix 10 Mhz. I use it to look at the general qualitative shape of wave forms in the 1Mhz to 10 Mhz range. I also use two channels for alignments (matching the phase position of one signal to another) it's absolutely fine for the job.
If you want to measure rise/fall times on fast wave forms then you may need the higher bandwidth model but for my needs this is really an excellent purchase. Oh and it did come with two good quality probes that have a 1x/10x switch on the probe handles.
The System Requirements say that win XP is recommended although it will work on Vista/Win7/Win8?Win10. The software is obviously quite old if it was written for Win XP and perhaps a re-write would make it more robust and easier to install under newer versions of windows.
I choose not to spend hours making something work out of the box - I was buying this to help me diagnose a fault on a PC related project I am working on, not to become a PC related project. I hope they update the drivers as the specs of this unit and other reviews all seem very positive.
The Software however is truly awful and is really not fit for purpose for the following reasons:
1. It is slow to implement selections
2. Many of the functions are simply greyed-out
3. The save/load Data function does not and cannot (in my opinion) work. It saves data in one format (txt) but cannot read it back unless you change the suffix to (rcf) and then it tells you that you have run out of memory!
4. Only DC coupling is available although the DSO will display AC and even TV waveforms
5. I would class this as beta software, not even "release candidate"
The Manual has to rank as one of the worst I have ever read in my 50 years as an engineer and, frankly, my advice is to ignore the Manual and work it out for yourself. Once you do, and you figure out that most of the problems will be of your own making, you end up with a cheap, basic oscilloscope which actually works rather well. I have run a lot of tests using a variety of timebase settings and trigger levels and they all worked well. Just learn to be patient and wait for the on-screen prompts, which can take a few seconds to appear, before giving up, it's worth the wait but remember, this isn't a high priced bench oscilliscope.
Saving/Loading trace data doesn't work at all in my experience but you can Save/Load settings. The trace window can be saved as a jpg (sample attached). As others have said there is some noise apparent on the traces but it is not that bad.
