This monitor rocks - in both a good and bad way

A very useful screen size that provides a lot of workspace for relatively little money. Construction is adequate, although it does rock on its stand when touched. The picture is bright and clear, providing sharp text and images. It is a very good monitor that, despite the faults noted below - for which I have deducted one star - meets my requirements well.

On the monitor I received the On Screen Display did not work, so no adjustments could be made, but as my graphics card software takes care of brightness, contrast, etc., and as I would never use a monitor's built-in speakers, (therefore not needing to control the volume), I don't miss it. The monitor has three so-called 'Colour Settings': Warm, Nature (6500K), and Cool. It comes pre-set at Nature (6500K), which is the only one I would use anyway, so once again I do not need the OSD to change it. There are one or two other minor options which I am also prepared to do without, but other purchasers may have found it inconvenient to not have a functioning OSD.

When starting Photoshop, a dialogue box informs that "The monitor profile HZ281 appears to be defective. Please re-run your monitor calibration software", so it is probably best not to bother installing the CD software that comes with the monitor.

Let's face it - buying this monitor is taking a chance, as can be seen from some of the more negative reviews. It is very cheap for its size and resolution, and corners have been cut to meet the price-point - predominantly those concerning quality control. Many purchasers will get a good example, whilst some will get a bad one- it's pot-luck - but with Amazon's excellent returns policy, probably a chance worth taking.

I was a little sceptical about this monitor due to some of the reviews. However after reading some 80 or so reviews it was gaining 8.8 out of ten or 4 stars out of 5. I thought on average it is a very good monitor, so I brought it. I was not disapointed, the monitor is excellent for everyday use and the same applies for playing games, I mainly play Modern Warfare 3 and the depth of colour and clarity are fantastic, much better than that of the previous 27 inch monitor (Acer 27 inch) I purchased but sent back due to a problem with the menu buttons, I am now happy this monitor wasnt working properly, this one was a 1920 x 1080 model. The HannsG 27.5 inch is a 1920 x1200 which does make a difference to clarity, plus a 3m response time so you wont get any ghosting during game play.

There were some comments about build quality, I dont really understand why to be honest, it's not made out of the best materials but whats to be expected at the price you pay for it, it's built to a decent standard in my opinion and looks good on my desk. There were also comments about it wobbling on it's stand, it does do this I think due to it's weight, it is quite heavy so the stand could have been a little more sturdy, however you dont really notice this during everyday use and I certainly dont notice it during game play.

This is an excellent monitor that I would have paid more for, there are no dead pixels at all, I would suggest that if you want a large monitor you give this a good look. I have been using it for over 2 weeks now.

CONTINUED 18 December 2012: Just thought I would write up a follow up review as I have had this monitor for over 2 months now. I am very please to say that this monitor is performing very well. I have Black Ops 2 which I am playing as often as I can and yet again the clarity is superb, I can confirm also that the wobble deffinately is not seen when playing games. I am very pleased with this purchase and if I needed another monitor this one would be it. No dead pixels, no buzzing etc etc. I am VERY happy with this purchase.

Ok, had this Computer monitor for six months now. First monitor had dead pixels or a screen fault but Amazon collected and replaced faulty one in one day after I hit the return item button on here, which was impressive. So after service was exceptional in my case. I use this monitor for a bit of gaming, TV streaming and word processing from a pentium Quad core PC Tower running at 2.99GHZ speed. It`s a good monitor at a good price, solid, good colours and easy to connect. The buttons to adjust contract, brightness, ect ect are on the bottom of the underside of the monitor and they are very very fiddly and small so that is the main weakness of this monitor. But really price wise it is good value and 28` as a PC screen size is about right to keep sharp graphics perspective if you play a lot of gaming. So I would say, buy this if you want an HDMI monitor that will turn a few heads when people walk in to the room after using there 15` screens on there laptops. Opens up a whole new world of colour and graphics.
