I can recommend this book to every doctor working in the field of immunology and allergy. The second edition was a very useful book and this is a good update. As usual the format is exemplary and easy to follow. A great reference book to have in your doctors coat pocket.

The Oxford Handbook series in medical topics are held in high regard by their users. They are not intended for the layman. The field of immunology is complicated enough for medical students and junior doctors especially presented in a concise aid format. Each of these chapters, if giving a lecture, would require considerable expansion to convey the important messages of this rapidly evolving subject.

As a Consultant at a clinical level and lecturer for many years in related fields to nurses, students, doctors up to senior level, the message of this book needs explanation. To those on the fringe of the subject it may be confusing and an ordeal, and hence feel it not for casual interest (apart from the committed). It is a superb companion to have at hand. I find it incomprehensible that this is sent out for review by reviewers (excellent in their own right) who are not experts in this topic. I could deliver a synopsis of a book on astro-physics but it would not be a review. This book is excellent. It has been a source of comfort for me but should be critically reviewed by people involved in clinical immunology or allied subjects. It is extensive in explaining autoimmune disorders including diagnosis and management, diagnostic tests, transplantation issues with complications and true allergy rather than intolerance. An excellent and indispensable companion.

This is my not my first Oxford Handbook, and I am very pleased that they are still of a very high quality. There is extensive coverage of immunological and allergic diseases, based on a clinical perspective. Aeitology, clinical features, tests and diagnosis are present for each given disease, allowing for clinicians to quickly refresh their knowledge. The lengthy list of abbreviations was also an added bonus, and quite frankly essential in immunology.

It should be noted that this is not really a book for the general public, unless you have a sound understanding of immunology (basic scientists, researchers, biomedical scientists, etc), and prior knowledge is assumed.

All in all, I am very pleased with this book and will be referring to it as a solid reference tool in my research. 5/5

There's not really a lot that you can say about Oxford Guides apart from they're thorough, tick all the boxes, independentally reviewed, extremely accurate and usable. This guide to Immunology is no different and really does exactly what it states in the product description. In fact I can't really do better than the 2nd paragraph of the product description as it sums up the guide perfectly and concisely. Incredibly useful if you work in this area or it impinges on your day to day practise or you just have an interest in immunology. Pocket sized in a wipe clean flexible cover it's something that can be carried quite easily in a coat pocket. My only complaint is that as I'm getting older and my eyesight is failing the text can be a little difficult to read and requires strong reading glasses or a Holmesian type magnifying glass to read, but that aside the Oxford Guides are well worth the money and this one is no exception.

Allergy and immunology is one of most neglected and under represented speciality in NHS! But believe me the morbidity and commonly misunderstood conditions and under treatment in general practice is disgraceful but this books aims to set it right. Vast, relevant but at same time compact and highly valuable information abt allergies tests, diagnosis , managements and also various immunological disorders are dealt aptly. As GP I have so far found it helpful and very informative, would recommend to all medics without hesitation.

I love the Oxford series, always a great source of information, well written and compressive.

I have been getting these for my daughter who is studying medicine and believe it is the best condensed information source available for a student or practitioner. She always comments on how valuable these books are to her. I can say more as I don't use them but hers friends are always borrowing them as well so I think they are valuable to them as well.
