This second edition of the hugely successful Handbook of Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychology incorporates important advances in the field to provide a reliable and accessible source of practical advice.
Beginning with a set of general conceptual frameworks for practice, the book gives specific guidance on the management of problems commonly encountered in clinical work with children and adolescents, drawing on best practice in the fields of clinical psychology and family therapy. In six sections, thorough and comprehensive coverage of the following areas is provided:
- frameworks for practice
- problems of infancy and early childhood
- problems of middle childhood
- problems in adolescence
- child abuse
- adjustment to major life transitions.
Each chapter dealing with specific clinical problems includes detailed discussion of diagnosis, classification, epidemiology and clinical features, as well as illustrative case examples.
This book will be invaluable both as a reference work for experienced practitioners, and an up-to–date, evidence-based practice manual for clinical psychologists in training.
The Handbook of Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychology is one of a set of three handbooks published by Routledge, which includes The Handbook of Adult Clinical Psychology (Edited by Alan Carr & Muireann McNulty) and The Handbook of Intellectual Disability and Clinical Psychology Practice (Edited by Alan Carr, Gary O’Reilly, Patricia Noonan Walsh and John McEvoy).

Product description
Review
Alan Carr's Handbook does an admirable job in providing immensely practical approaches for the assessment and treatment of mental health problems in young people, whilst also being critically and constructively informative on the findings of research and the claims of theories. The succinct listing of further readings for both professionals and families, together with details of useful web sites, at the end of each chapter is a particular strength.
Michael Rutter, Institute of Psychiatry, London
This text stands as the clearest and most comprehensive account of therapy and practice in the field of child and adolescent mental health. This second edition will have an impact that establishes it as the text of choice for students, practitioners and trainers.
Arlene Vetere, University of Surrey

I often buy the books the teacher suggests are good reading/helpful for the course but most of the time I don't read/use them at all. This book, however, has been very well used this year.
I find the book is very user friendly - easy to read and very informative. I have found it helpful for many of the essays I have been required to write.
My only criticism, and it is really just me nit-picking, is that the book is really chunky. This makes it a pain to carry about with you to/from class.
I highly recommend you buying this book. I doubt you will regret it!
