"It's remarkable how fresh these two episodes are, considering they were originally recorded over 50 years ago. There's the odd topical gag that means very little today, but that won't spoil your enjoyment of this excellent release." (Darren Rea http://www.reviewgraveyard.com)

Hancock is one of the few radio shows that doesn't really age. The improbable situations that Hancock finds himself in don't really depend on topicality to sustain the humour. The often surreal element to Hancock's shows as the situation follows seemingly logical steps to complete comedy chaos and the reaction of his character on the way was supported by great writing and a wonderful cast; in particular Sid James.
The two shows presented here are not necessarily the best of the Hancock canon but they are still incredibly funny, well worth listening to and I would heartily recommend them.
It is a pity that the theme music and announcements were not seen fit to include on the original (and thus, this re-issue) but their lack doesn't detract too much.
A great way to pass an hour and I don't think this is one only for nostalgists or lovers of "old fashioned" comedy. I think it would work just as well if broadcast today as it did then.
I have not heard these two episodes previously, or if I have I had forgotten them. Both very funny and Sid james works well with Hancock to deliver a first class comedy. Once a classic, always a classic.
A real genius who took his own life far too early. But at least the BBC keep his talent alive by releasing this and other CDs of his genius.
Here we have two episodes of 'Hancock's half hour' the radio show which transferred so well to television. In Sid's Mystery Tour Sid James talks Tony Hancock into becoming the director of his guided tours company , with hilarious consequences for a company with no bus.
While the poetry Society features a host of cameos as Tony Hancock, joins a poetry society full of people as pompous as him.
As with all great radio comedy its as much what you imagine is happening as what is actually happening, which makes this so funny. Buy with confidence great stuff.
I like these AudioGo releases and hope they will release more retro selections like this. The price is good. The sound quality is good too. The CD was originally on an LP so you get the original art work etc. Well worth buying.
Anyone familiar with Hancock will know the episodes "the poetry society" and "Sid's mystery tours" are both spot on and very funny. These recordings both lack the intro music and the transition music that you find on other versions and are poorer for that, but I guess these weren't on the original records. It does make the presentation a little souless to be honest.
Audio quality is good though and the CD is printed up took look like an LP - nice touch.
