Product description

Box set featuring five films from the Hammer film vaults. In 'The Quatermass Xperiment' it is the dawn of the space age and the British Rocket Group launches three astronauts on an experimental mission. Their ship, Quatermass 1, loses radio contact with Earth and later crash-lands. Professor Bernard Quatermass (Brian Donlevy) is one of the first on the scene, and is intrigued to discover that two of the crew are no longer aboard. It soon becomes clear that the mission's sole survivor, Victor Carroon (Richard Wordsworth), is desperately ill - he is rapidly consumed by the parasitic alien organism that killed his fellow astronauts. In 'Quatermass II' strange metallic meteorites rain down over Winnerden Flats, an eerie new town in the vicinity of a highly guarded chemical plant. Professor Quatermass is intrigued to discover that contact with the meteorites causes an unusual infection, and is astonished to find that the chemical plant appears to be modelled after his own design for a moonbase - a design that enables life to thrive in an artificial atmosphere. Quatermass's investigation uncovers a sinister conspiracy that extends from government level to the zombie-like workers who will stop at nothing to protect the plant. In 'The Abominable Snowman' gun-runner Tom Friend embarks on an expedition in search of the fabled creature known as the Yeti, or Abominable Snowman. He is joined by botanist John Rollason, whose scientific curiosity is at odds with Rollason's aim to capture and commercially exploit one of the creatures. In 'X the Unknown' mysterious events surround the sudden appearance of a gaping fissure in Scotland - soldiers on manoeuvres nearby develop a debilitating sickness and a small boy is later engulfed by an eerie presence. Finally in 'Captain Kronos, Vampire Hunter' Captain Kronos (Horst Janson) and his assistant Grost (John Cater) are professional vampire hunters who have been summoned to a village where a young girl has been found emaciated. Kronos must devise a cunning plan to expose the murderer and decides he must use the beautiful gypsy Carla as bait.
