Hamilton Beach 22324 SmartToast Extra-Wide Slot 2 Slice Toaster, Red
Such an attractive and ergonomic toaster though perhaps a trifle over-priced (by some £6300)? I will certainly consider buying one ... when I get back from the MOON.

..in a quandary here about snapping up this bargain. The description does not tell us whether this is the "standard" or "deluxe" model. I'm guessing that at the bargain rate quoted this is the bog standard model. Please advise

Ooooooo a toaster that only costs £6,000 I must get one . Maybe I'll get two in case one breaks down . At that price it has to be worth it.

HASH(0x91834408) out of 5 stars Awesome Machine!! 24 Mar. 2013

One of my kids decided to hide a plastic fork in our old toaster and we didn't realized until our senses were awaken by the smell of burning plastic. Our search for an inexpensive efficient toaster landed us here. This toaster works great. Any reviews that suggest that the heating shield interferes somehow with the toasters operation either has a faulty machine or there problems are a result of user error. This is a great value for the price. I eat Ezekiel bread which is highly perishable bread that keeps well in the freezer. Toast comes out perfectly, as do bagels and thicker breads. Darkness settings 1 - 5 are very accurate. Glad I went with this one. It is a very handsome appliance as well. P.S. I don't usually write reviews but I felt compelled. Get this toaster you won't be disappointed.

HASH(0x91cb3864) out of 5 stars Attractive Toaster that's made well! 2 Jan. 2013

At first I didnot want to order anything in this red color, but when I saw how affordable it was i decided to do so anyway, and I can say that I'm glad that I did! The slots on this toaster are very wide, much wider than my old toaster whose slots I thought were pretty wide. When it heats up you don't see those red coils like you see in the older toasters, and it comes with tongs that allows you to pull out your bread which is very serviceable since I've had my share of bread that stuck in the toaster and finding the correct utensil to fish it out with was always a pain. It heats the bread up evenly and you can eject the bread before it's finished toasting if you want to check it out in between. I'm surprised it cost so little, because a well made toaster like this one ought to cost more. $18.74 is a great price, and my local store is charging more for toasters that can't hold a candle to this one!

HASH(0x91cc3f00) out of 5 stars It MADE TOAST, I am so disapointed 12 July 2013

We just received our Hamilton Beach toaster from Amazon. We took it out of the box, unwrapped the cord, plugged it in, put bread in it, pressed the lever and waited. I could not believe what happened after that, it made toast. Hard to believe we bought a toaster and it toasted bread, bagels and English muffins, we tried it all. We were so disappointed, we purchased the toaster after reading an online review that caught our eye. One review said they took it out of the box, put bread in it and the toaster shot the bread across the room. The reviewer indicated how entertaining this was, toasting bread watching it launch and the scamble to see who could get to the toast first, man or beast. To me that sounded like more fun than I could stand. So as I plugged in my electric karma comedy machine and much to my dismay it actually made perfect toast. The "pop" was a gentile sound that most toasters make and the toasted bread was at a level that was easy to retrieve. I thought well maybe the reviewer meant a bagel or English muffin. NO it just kept making toasted bread products slice after slice. Poor Ginger my 6 YO Golden retriever gave me those sad "is that all there is" eyes and I had to explain the situation. "I know girl the toaster did exactly what the manufacturer said would, it made toast, we can't always believe other peoples reviews" I said with sympathetic tone. "It made toast" that's Is all I could think about that day. Our dreams of a carbo launching electric comedy machine was destroyed, it was just not meant to be. Curse you Hamilton Beach for making such a high quality product that does what it is advertised to do, make toast. So if you want a toaster that toasts bread, bagels and english muffins the Hamilton Beach Smart Toast is a good choice. If you are looking for a Rockin Roll Carbo Loaded Missle Launcher you will be disappointed.

HASH(0x91834834) out of 5 stars Overall, a good solid toaster 9 Jan. 2013

I have to admit, I was somewhat concerned with the reviews before buying this toaster. I thought about it, the price was right, we needed a toaster and I was intrigued by the tongs in the top.

After a few adjustments on the temp, to get it right, we find that we really like this toaster. It toasts quite nicely, way better than our old toaster. We love the tong feature. The toaster takes a bit longer than our old toaster to toast, but it toasts it more evenly and better which we can live with. Our only issue more with the item being toasted than with the toaster. For a small italian roll, it toasts quickly-- turn down setting. For a slice of normal white bread, it toasts longer. For a slice of bakery wheat or bakery rye, you'll need to either turn up the setting or put it down about 1/2 of a second time.

Overall, we like this toaster, solid, performs well.

HASH(0x918349e4) out of 5 stars Useless after two toasting sessions 13 Dec. 2013

I usually read reviews obsessively before making a purchase. But this time, I deferred to the fact that this toaster was the #1 rated toaster on Amazon, and at the price, well, I just didn't bother.
Now I'm back to actually write a review for this one in hopes that it helps some future purchaser who actually bothers to read it.

This toaster made excellent toast. Twice. Then - nothing. I put the bread in, push down the lever and nothing happens. Absolutely zero heat. None of the buttons on the front had any effect - not even the cancel button to retrieve my untoasted bread.

The tongs are a nice touch, but for a toaster that doesn't make toast, they're pretty worthless. This one is going back to Amazon today and no, I'm not going to order a replacement of the same model. Now that I've actually read the reviews, I see that 16 (as of today) other people have had the same issue and I don't want to risk that the next one they send me will break down one day after the return period expires.

p.s. My husband suspects, and I agree, that there's a good possibility that the safety feature that is supposed to prevent a fire by turning the heat elements off if toast gets stuck are its undoing. Perhaps it perceives that there is a piece of toast stuck in it and therefore it won't heat up. Clearly not the case and this design needs a re-work.
