From the moment I heard the Bungie intro on the first track, I knoiw that this was a good purchase.
This CD takes you on a wild journy through the depths of Halo, showing the listener its lighter and more sinnister sides.
People who have played the game will instantly recognise the songs from their many encounters with the Covenant hords, reliving the fight to the surface of silent cartographer (Rock anthem for Saving the world) and when you find the first group of marines that were ambushed by The Flood (Lament for Pvt. Jenkins).
Don't expect every track to be music, some are atmospheric tracks that were ment to set the mood of the area (but there are only a couple of these!) but even these are amazing. Giving the listener a sense of the scale of Halo and where they are on it.
Even if you have not played the game I advise you to buy this CD as the songs are just as good on their own.
The CD also contains the music from the Gamestock preview and an extra hidden track. (I don't know where it fitted into the game, if it did at all. Maybe I missed it ^_^;)

The essence of a good soundtrack is that it enhances the enjoyment of whatever film, show or even game that the viewer or player is experiencing without intruding unnecessarily. Anyone who has ever played the extraordinary game Halo will confirm that its soundtrack is very effective.
Buying a soundtrack is always a little problematic. A good film soundtrack is not always easy to listen to when taken away from the film. It may be perfectly evocative of the movie, allowing one who has seen it to replay moments in their head, but as music the soundtrack can fail to engage.
This is certainly true of sections of the Halo soundtrack. While the suites are undoubtedly good music, there are sections that require the listener to have played the game for them to mean much of anything. Many of the tracks are very short, feeling almost like samples, but that is the nature of this beast.
The original soundtrack to the game was dynamic - it adapted itself to the way the player worked the game. As the sleeve notes say, there may be pieces of music in the soundtrack that players simply don't recognise from the game, as they never did find a particular room, or deal with an enemy in a particular way.
There are a few tracks that have historical as well as aural interest. The suites were written to accompany demos of the game at trade shows and the like, and encompass much of what players will remember from different segments of the game. That is fine by this reviewer - the suites are by far the most impressive sections of the soundtrack.
It cannot be denied that the soundtrack to Halo will be most appreciated by those who have played the game. The thrill you will get when you hear the punch of 'Rock Anthem for Saving the World', wonderfully OTT and deliberately tacky though it may be.

The soundtrack where it all started. It's amazing to think Marty had to quickly think up the original melody for the Halo theme (the Gregorian Choir melody), he sure is a genius.

Memories of loading up my Xbox back in 2002, getting onto the main menu and being in awe of the music. Perfect. If you haven't bought this already, buy it. Especially if you're a Halo veteran like myself!

Whether one is nine or ninety, the standard of the music on this c.d. cannot fail to impress. There are insufficient epithets in my vocabulary to do this production justice. All I can say is, buy it, try it, you'll be more than just pleasantly surprised.

The music from all of the Halo games has really come into my life to stay. I keep switching beetween this original soundtrack and the remake from a couple of years ago, combat evolved anniversary.
Some of the tunes are better with the old electronic sound and some are improved in the new one ( especially the voices) If you looove the Halo games as much as I do buy this cd. It takes you right back into the stories of Masterchief.

this cd id fantastic. the music is very... how to say it? it has a good tune. of course this isn't the kind of music you would use during parties when you are getting late with your friends! but when you are going to sleep in the evenings or to relax. you've heard the music when playing halo but this is a totally different experience.
all halo mershandise is good. so buy it. this and the game and the oficial walkthrough and the books by eric nyulund.

An absolute fantastic buy. A must for all Halo Fans. Fantastic collection of the in-game music. I only hope that they also release a CD soundtrack for Halo 2 when it is released.

I love this cd it has all of the music off the game. All of the music on the cd has been remixed by the artist so that it is more easy to listen to. So it shows that effort has been made in to making this a good music cd and not just some cheap money making trick. In my oppinion you just have to get the cd to just recreate that Halo experience. You will love it even if you have never played on the game.
