First off, this is the conclusion of The Icewind Dale Trilogy: Collector's Edition (Forgotten Realms). I would strongly recommend reading the first two novels in the series, The Crystal Shard (Forgotten Realms: Icewind Dale Trilogy) and Streams of Silver: 2 (Forgotten Realms: Icewind Dale Trilogy), to truly enjoy this book. This story picks up with Artemis Entreri, running off with Regis from Mithral Hall, the halfling, to return him to Pasha Pook the leader of the largest thieves' guild in Calimport. Drizzt and friends chase after Entreri to save Regis from the almost certain death that awaits him in Calimport. The plot is pretty straight forward, but there are definitely enough complications to keep it interesting.

I really enjoyed this book and thought it was the best book in the trilogy. The Halfling's Gem regains the continuous fast paced adventure that was lost in part of Streams of Silver. I found the supporting characters in this book much better conceived and interesting. The battle scenes in the boat and at Pasha Pook's palace were at least as good as any of the battle scenes in the other two books. Also Drizzt's attempt to find himself and what he stands for really progresses in this book. This continues in

Read this years ago and recently revisited this series. One of my first from Salvatore and still a favorite. great characters and writing, and exciting action.
If you like books like this one, might I suggest another I've recently come across. The Unsuspecting Mage by Brian S. Pratt. It's another fantasy adventure sure to please. I highly recommend it.

in this third and final installment of the icewind dale trilogy you see that an epic journey is undertaken as wulgar and drizzet go in search of the ruthless entrie and there beloved friend regis.
this final installment will not disapoint you as it is full of surprise and intregue. the plot is prety much the jouney and the struggle to set regis free.
the usual attention to detail is portrayed as salvatore develops the two charecters to a more intimate level. while he develops the main charecters to a good level there is also a sub plot which shows in sight in to the aspects which are shown in the previouse tale. there is also a pleasent surprise awaiting anyone who has raed the previouse books.
so overall this is another good book as the saga continues. definetly worth a read and a good ending to the icewind dale series

A disappointing finish to an otherwise fine trilogy, 'The Halflings Gem' attempts to wrap up some plotlines that began in 'The Crustal Shard,' but it fails due to a terribly anti-climatic ending.
All would still be well if the meat of the book was up to par, but sadly, that is not either. Gone is the fast paced, non-stop action of 'The Crystal Shard,' or the roving adventure and excitement of 'Streams of Silver.' There is no suspence or anticipation as in the other novels - you know where the story is headed at all times, and you know how it will turn out. It's just a matter of trudging through the pages to get there.
A stale ending to an otherwise fun and enjoyable fantasy adventure series...still the best of the TSR line of books, but the poor ending keeps it from getting on any other "best" lists.

This was a great book as a follow up to the last one (Streams of Silver) tho I did surely miss Bruneor, which does not appear much in this one till the middle! The fact that they all are willing to go and Find Regis, the halfling after all his Lies is interesting, but more importantly the Onyx Statue of the Panther is in Ememy Hands! at some point u forget about the statue and just think of Regis, but in the end it's the Panther that saves the day once again! Against Impossible Odds they win and save the day again. Due to the fact that normal People can't beat Drizzt they have to bring him to another Dimension for a while! (Boring) that is until Catti-Brie is Hurt and Drizzt Throws Wulfgar into the portal, it's great start to finish, tho the End sequence is much to be desired.

The is the final installment of the Icewind Dale trilogy.

Same cast members as the previous two novels, there's a couple of new characters added into the plot. We also get a formal introduction to Pasha Pook.

Action packed novel with lots of fight scenes, Drizzt finally has it out with Artemis. Predictable story and turn of events- but I still love the books set in this fantasy world.

I would advise reading the previous two installments (Crystal Shard & Streams of Silver) before embarking on the book.

The final part of this trilogy doesn't disappoint as the action transfers to underground, astral plain and sea locations.

The characters continue to be developed in interesting ways and the action scenes are even more intense. There are a number of showdowns which have been anticipated for some time and well worth waiting for although the Dwarf vs Duergar battle at the end is hurried.

Looking forward to reading more books about these great characters both as a team and individually.
