I looked everywhere for an English version of this film for a surprise present. However one does not exist, though this was the perfect solution, region 2 so plays in the UK and on the menu you can choose to play the film in English, so I printed out an English sleeve and my mum was thrilled with this!

Firstly I must tell you that I am a huge Tommy Steele fan, but the good news is that this film doesn't only have a glowing review from me because of that but more I became a fan of Tommy Because of this film!
I think I first saw it in the 70's as a child and must have watched it several times during my formative years, probably at Christmas time if it was on or something. I think as I got older watching it gave me a sense of nostalgia for my youth but also I developed a real respect for Tommy's Musical & Dance talent and showmanship.
In General The film itself follows A young lad called Arthur Kipps (Based on the Novel Kipps by HG Wells) from very humble and meager beginnings through his apprenticeship at a drapers shop where he becomes a man, Arthur fell in love with a girl, Ann, with whom we stayed in contact and they were reunited as young adults, the rest of the story is about the ensuing romance and ultimate marriage of Arthur and Ann.
The film is full of memorable songs and dance sequences and beautiful scenery which paints a lovely period picture.
I won't waffle on about the details of the film as I would like you to discover it or rediscover it for yourself, allow yourself some time, get your favorite snacks, drinks, or even better favorite person and let yourself be entertained.

For some unknown reason there is no UK version of this on DVD, I used to own it on VHS so thank you Amazon for the digital release.

The entire DVD is in Spanish. Possibly my own fault, after all the cover isn't in English. However I've bought DVDs before where the cover is foreign, but the DVD itself is still in English.

The seller really needs to make it a lot clearer what language this disc plays in. So, whilst perhaps I should have read the small print more carefully. If the seller wants to do good, honest business, it would hardly hurt them to provide clearer information.

edited to say - I'm scrolling through other reviews and wishing I'd looked at all the 1 star reviews. However, I've noticed some saying you can switch the dubbing to English - I shall certainly have a go, however I'm still not impressed.

After further investigation I've found out how to get it to play in English so I shall change my 1 star rating to 3 stars. I would still like to see clearer explanation so people know exactly what they're getting and perhaps instructions given by the seller as to how to change the language.

Tommy Steele plays an excellent character in Half a sixpence. The music is amazing and the singing is brillent. The film I thought was a beautiful love story but that all soon changed when Tommy Steele betrayed his love. In the end it all became a love story again and I think that this film deserves 4 stars.

lovely film which runs a long time but is thoroughly enjoyable. It would be great if it was available in region 2 at an affordable price
