Okay, its different from any other book on dragons I have ever read in the fact there are no dragons in it. That fact and the way the author recreated them in a world I live in made it unique and fun. I just love the idea behind this book. I looked up the author and this looks like his first book. Well it engaged me, kept me turning the pages and at the end I had that feeling you get after a good read where you think to yourself I really enjoyed that. Great first novel, thanks Carl.

A book about dragons.. or is it?

So often when people think of a sci-fi book they say "oh it's not for me". If they gave this book a go they would be pleasantly surprised.

Hale is an orphan accused of being an arsonist. He has been held in a mental institution since he was 14, days before he turns 18 he meets Valder and his whole life changes. He is aksed to re-think his whole life, find out the truth about his parents death and deal with a life changing discovery.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a real page turner, I cared about the characters, cheered them on and felt their frustrations, and happiness. The ending was perfect and there is so much more that can become of many of the characters whether it be prequel, sequel or a complete spin-off series.

For me this is on par with "The Hunger Games" trilogy.

As the first in the series I can't wait for the next installment. Don't leave it as long as George RR Martin!

With a new Kindle for Xmas I downloaded a number of books and by the luck of the draw this was the first one I read and I have to admit I loved it. It starts out with Hale in hospital and the big secret is revealed. This is just a brilliant idea, well done the author (Carl) for this unique twist on a bit of fable. After that the novel races along introducing surprising challenges, great characters and builds up to a wonderful ending with plenty of twists and revelations. It really is filled with great ideas and can t wait for the sequel.
