About the Author
Simon Haynes was born in England and grew up in Spain, where he enjoyed an amazing childhood of camping, motorbikes, air rifles and paper planes. His family moved to Australia when he was 16. Simon divides his time between writing fiction and computer software, with frequent bike rides to blow away the cobwebs. His goal is to write fifteen Hal books (Spacejock OR Junior!) before someone takes his keyboard away. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

I thought Series 7 & 8 of Red Dwarf was funny but the Hal Spacejock books are a long way ahead.
Addenda June 2015.
I don't always finish books quickly as often months may go by before I have the time to continue where I left off. Recently I continued reading this book (In bed) and within minutes there were tears of laughter running down my face. Simon Haynes has a very unique writing talent, he can write something that out of context is funny but in context is side-splittingly hilarious. Humorous sarcasm, the humour we have all often experienced when we shouldn't laugh at someone else's albeit minor disaster...be we do!
Well written fiction should have the ability to conjure vivid images in the mind - these books have that in abundance. I would so dearly love to see these books transformed into a TV series (but with dominant input from the author)
I would give these books Ten stars if I could.
No Free Lunch introduces a new character that I hope stays with the team, she fits in well & we have a bit of love-interest for Hal. This story gives a bit of adventure, some thriller-murder-mystery-investigation and, of course, Hal being the hero & saving the day. Good stuff for a more relaxing evening read.
Hal makes his usual hash of romance, investigating, friendships and just the whole business of life in general.
Clunk is his usual sardonic self and again comes to save the day whenever it's needed.
I thoroughly recommend it and wish more stars were available for the rating.
Several plot twists are trademarks of Simon Haynes' brilliant style.
Humour with two U's!!
As with the other books this one whips along at a fair pace with new caracters as well as the now loved old ones.
There were several laugh out loud moments as well as some well disguised chuckles for those in the know.(Hitchikers guide towel reference for one)
Buy it now...
Sure hope he does a book 5.
