About the Author

During her many years of working at a daily newspaper, Jennifer L. Oliver honed her writing skills in secret. As an avid reader, she enjoys books that give her an entertaining and temporary escape from the daily stresses of life. Now, she hopes to bring the same enjoyment to others through her own work. Jennifer is the author of The Haedyn Chronicles, and other dark urban fantasy and paranormal thrillers. She is also a freelance proofreader and always looking for the opportunity to help other authors reach their publishing dreams. Although she was born and raised in North Carolina, she now lives on Florida's gulf coast with her husband, two cats, and a Royal Bahamian Potcake dog - who is half her size and thinks the world revolves around treats. When she's not writing, you can find her playing in the flower garden, giggling with her granddaughter, and enjoying time with her family and friends. 4.0 out of 5 stars Great series! 1 Sept. 2014

I've been fascinated by Haedyn's character, since I first read The Unnamed. Ms. Oliver does a wonderful job of portraying the conflict within Haedyn due to her unique origins. She skillfully weaves the scenes together while giving us just enough background and emotion between the characters. This novella stands alone, but I highly recommend the two short stories that provide more info about the past. I look forward to the next book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Haedyn's Choice 22 Jan. 2014

This was a great book. I love fantasy and the supernatural and Jennifer has done a great job of blending the supernatural and the natural. There is a healthy mix of love and lust and the awakening of those feelings in a girl who has experienced and dealt but cruelty in her life.

I am anxiously waiting for the sequel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, clean, demonic fun! 24 May 2013
By Melinda VanLone - Published on Amazon.com

I'll let you in on a secret. Okay, it's not really a secret. It's more like a tidbit of useful information that will put you In The Know:

There's a short novella which serves as a prologue to this story. It's called The Unnamed.

I'd seen the cover for it somewhere, and it intrigued me enough to go pick up the book. At 99 cents, why not? The story fascinated me. We meet Haedyn as a child, and see some of her backstory played out. She meets Azazel, the demon, and is whisked away to become his minion. I was hooked for Haedyn's Choice before the book even came out because of that short introduction into her world.

This is an urban fantasy, based heavily in Christian metaphors and mythologies. I found it absolutely fascinating to hear the Christian tale of the fallen angels this way, with a twist of magic and hint of different planes of existence. Plus, I fell in love with Haedyn. First, because she looks so different. Us mere humans would call her an Albino, but she's more than that. She has vivid red eyes, pearl white skin, and white hair. I could picture her so clearly in my mind. She'd be outcast anywhere she went, for her looks alone. Second, I loved that she is an alpha...as in, if she were male, we'd call her an alpha male. Unused to caring for people, and used to being the strongest in the room. She's unaware of her full potential, though, and somewhere in there she does have a heart which causes her no end of trouble. Demons, after all, aren't supposed to care about us mere humans. And this human she's supposed to protect asks too many questions, gets in her personal space, and in general puts cracks in her cool, demonic exterior. Can he reach her heart? Read it!

I enjoyed this debut novel by Oliver immensely. It ends in a way that makes me eager for the next bit of Haedyn's adventure. If you like urban fantasy, Christian based stories, demons, or just a good mystery, check this out. If you're looking for steamy romance, this won't satisfy you. While there's a hint of romance, there's no real touching going on. This is good, clean, demonic fun.

I highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys paranormal or supernatural type stories. It's a fresh take on demons and angels. The story is fast paced with lots of plot twists.
