Product Description

Product Description

Hacks is a comedy drama about the fall of fictional British tabloid newspaper – The Sunday Comet.

The new Editor Kate Loy doesn't take any prisoners. And the Proprietor of the paper, Stanhope Feast demands she always gets the biggest stories first. But her moral compass went awry a long time ago. Kate’s drive to deliver ‘the truth’ is intense - the phrase ‘by any means necessary' doesn't even cover it. Phone hacking, blagging, pinging... the staff here do it all. But it's all about to unravel and in a big way...

Starring Claire Foy as Kate and Michael Kitchen as the charismatic Mr Feast, the stellar cast also includes Russ Abbott, Alexander Armstrong, Phil Davis, Celia Imrie, Gordon Kennedy, Kayvan Novak and Nigel Planer. Written by Guy Jenkin (Drop the Dead Donkey, Outnumbered), Hacks takes a satirical swipe at the recent momentous events surrounding the British newspaper industry.

When I bought this, I was just expecting a run-of-the-mill parody of a UK tabloid. Boy, was I in for a pleasant surprise. I started laughing from the first to the last scene. The casting was a touch of brilliance all round. Top marks to the amazingly versatile and incredibly talented Michael Kitchen who played the part of Lupert better than the Dirty Digger himself could have. Strewth mate, I loved the strine accent. 2013 update: sorry to hear about that Tony Bliar taking advantage of the family jewels - never mind, mate, 'such is life' as an old stable mate of yours said.

Watched this on tv but had to buy the dvd & have watched it several times, there is a lot in it, need to watch quite a few times to see all the jokes. Very well written, of course it surely can't be true . . . . .

While they could have done so much more with this current event, there were parts that I thought were funny. While the material left something to be desired, Michael Kitchen's delivery was funny and well done as always. This won't win any awards, and I wouldn't pay full price for it, but it was worth seeing, for Kitchen alone.
