The 72 ha Unamuno Vineyard is located in the heart of the Arribes del Duero Natural Reserve, Europe's largest protected area of old vines and olives. Sitting at 750 meters above sea level, its privileged location and mircoclimate are ideal for producing well balanced wines with great personality. The vines are trained using the Smart-Dyson method, allowing better and more complete ripening of the grapes.
Our Natural Reserve Syrah is a limited production wine with only 22,000 bottles made per year. Slow fermentation is used to achieve maximum fruit extraction, followed by 24 months in new French oak barrels before bottling.

Hacienda Zorita Unamuno Vineyard Natural Reserve | Castilla Y León.
Hacienda Zorita Syrah is a premium multi-award winning red wine, created in the Duero Valley’s most remote and virtually unspoiled wine region: The Arribes del Duero Natural Reserve, Europe’s one of the largest protected area of old vines and olives. A limited production wine with only 22,000 bottles made per year and matured for 24 months in new French oak barrels before bottling.
The Arribes del Duero Natural Reserve is the furthest point one could possibly go along the Duero riverbanks in Spain. Sitting at 750 metres above sea level, its privileged location and microclimate are ideal for producing well balanced wines with great personality. The soil composition, continental climate and maritime influence, make this an ideal location for sustainable viticulture. The vines are trained using the Smart-Dyson method, allowing better and more complete ripening of the grapes.
Grown on our vineyard in the Golden Mile in Ribera del Duero which counts Vega Sicilia as its neighbour, the carefully selected handpicked grapes are slowly fermented at controlled temperature to achieve maximum fruit extraction. Frequent remontage to optimise flavour and colour extraction. Malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels.
Even though the wine has spent two years in oak, the nose is pure primary black and blue fruit with a whiff of menthol. The palate is packed with tobacco, rippling cassis, minerals and a savoury toasty note. The tannins are super smooth and fine grained.
Ideal with game, roasts and cured sheep cheese.

|Harvest takes place at night in order to avoid high temperatures which minimises oxidation and the loss of aromatics. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats over a period of 15-20 days. After 2/3 months, the wine is stabilised, filtered and bottled.||When optimum ripeness is reached, the grapes are harvested. After remaining at a controlled temperature and humidity, we proceed by blending the wines. To maintain optimal quality, only a minimal amount of filtration takes place prior to bottling. Aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels.||A limited production icon wine with only 9,897 bottles produced, Magister captures the “Duero Spirit.” Produced using the highest quality, hand harvested grapes from each vintage. After passing through the selection table, the grapes are then slowly fermented in order to achieve maximum fruit extraction. The wine is aged for 18 months in new French Allier oak casks in the Magister Ageing Cellar, a former chapel at Hacienda Zorita.|
|Pale straw-coloured yellow. Aromas suggesting mature fruit with a delicate balsamic depth.||Garnet red with a brighter ruby rim. Intense fruity flavour with a hint of spice on the nose.||An exceptional wine of elegance and complexity. Hints of French oak underline rich, ripe fruity overtones.|
|A fruity, balanced flavour, pleasantly persistent.||An added dimension is the subtle use of oak which combines well with soft ripe tannins.||Soft tannins combine well with balanced acidity, giving a wine of great length and structure. Suitable for cellar ageing.|

Apparently, they only produce 22,000 bottles a year, so I better get in quick, as I may need another bottle just to make sure.
It's a Syrah wine (often called a Shiraz) and the fascinating fact of the day... are you ready... well in 2004 the Syrah was estimated to be the world's 7th most grown grape. Ok maybe it wasn't your most fascinating fact of the day, but it was mine.
To be honest it's such a nice wine it can go with anything. From pizza to beef.

It has lots of attractive toasty oak and fleshy blackberry and plum on the nose of this full-bodied red wine, which is pleasant on the palate.
It's a juicy, dark full-bodied red wonder wine.
Well balanced too.
Yes, it's lovely oaky red.
