Within an afternoon I'd scanned in scores of old photos and uploaded many of them to Facebook and other outlets. Picture quality is excellent, the software to enhance and improve upon colour, brightness, contrast, etc., works simply, and you can readily re-size and re-orientate your photos.
Probably not the fastest scanner on the market - but you could pay an awful lot more money for little in the way of improvement. This is, after all, an exceptionally economical tool (I bought mine purely and simply because I wanted to transfer a load of photo prints to disc, and beyond, and it has proved more than satisfactory on that score).
Drawbacks - the only one I can discover, so far, is that the screen seems to become very greasy when you scan in photos. It's worth keeping a duster on hand and giving the screen a good wipe down before you load the next batch of pictures. I also tried scanning in a picture still in its frame (and thus behind glass) - you can get a bit of glare and reflection from the glass, so better to remove pictures from frames before scanning).
So far I've only scanned photos - I've not tried slides or negatives, etc., but don't foresee any problems with these.
On the plus side, not only extremely economical, but extremely fast delivery - I opted for 'free home delivery' via Amazon when I ordered my machine late on Sunday night ...Read more ›
When buying a second scanner (I already own an epson sx200 printer scanner, which is great for scanning photos but no good for scanning anything with any kind of depth such as artwork or 3-d objects, plus the true colours of items is sometimes difficult to obtain.)
This is where the HP scanjet G2410 is wonderful, scanning objects, photos and artwork with ease. It is also very easy and quick to set up. One of the great things about The G2410 is the access to HP website which is informative and helpful with some great links to other sights such as HP shop and 'snapfish.co.uk' (for those who haven't heard of snapfish it's a website which offers photo printing and free photo storage.)
in all the G2410 is a good scanner, great value for money and simple to use and hopefully will last as long as my first HP scanner which lasted 8 years!!.
The scanner worked fine for a couple of pictures, but suddenly started to get "stuck" after scanning. The sensor would move almost all the way to the near-end - but only almost - at which point it would stop moving, and the motor would begin making loud noises that'll make you jump and unplug the scanner before something rips or tears off. After plugging in the scanner again, the sensor would move to its initial position, as if nothing has happened. Now, this does not happen every time, but - I'd say, one out of three scans, it'll happen. Of course, when I brought it back to the store to demonstrate, it did not.
Searching on the Internet for the symptoms I found heaps of other people with the same problem. One even managed to get a replacement device, which did the same problem - which makes me believe that the issues I am experiencing are common for this model.
There are other drawbacks: The HP software you need to use for scanning (unless you want Windows' generic TWAIN application) is big, slow and clunky. If you care about getting a lightweight install on your computer - this is not it.
Because of all this, I strongly recommend that you avoid this scanner.
