This is a highly practical and easy to use product - insert CD to load the software, plug in the scanner, connect it to your computer via the USB cable provided and, hey presto, it's up and running in under five minutes (or 15 if, like me, you forget to press the on switch to the rear of the right hand side of the machine): once you realise you need to switch it on, it works like a charm.

Within an afternoon I'd scanned in scores of old photos and uploaded many of them to Facebook and other outlets. Picture quality is excellent, the software to enhance and improve upon colour, brightness, contrast, etc., works simply, and you can readily re-size and re-orientate your photos.

Probably not the fastest scanner on the market - but you could pay an awful lot more money for little in the way of improvement. This is, after all, an exceptionally economical tool (I bought mine purely and simply because I wanted to transfer a load of photo prints to disc, and beyond, and it has proved more than satisfactory on that score).

Drawbacks - the only one I can discover, so far, is that the screen seems to become very greasy when you scan in photos. It's worth keeping a duster on hand and giving the screen a good wipe down before you load the next batch of pictures. I also tried scanning in a picture still in its frame (and thus behind glass) - you can get a bit of glare and reflection from the glass, so better to remove pictures from frames before scanning).

So far I've only scanned photos - I've not tried slides or negatives, etc., but don't foresee any problems with these.

On the plus side, not only extremely economical, but extremely fast delivery - I opted for 'free home delivery' via Amazon when I ordered my machine late on Sunday night ...

I bought this scanner because it was cheap, I needed something quickly to scan some documents for a solicitor. I hadn't used a scanner before and was expecting some problems, but it was really simple, got it installed and stuff scanned in half an hour! It also does photo scanning really easily - I can't really comment on the quality if people need this, the photos I was scanning were fairly old, but the pictures came out better than I expected. Definately recommend it

    HP ScanJet G2410 Flatbed Scanner
When buying a second scanner (I already own an epson sx200 printer scanner, which is great for scanning photos but no good for scanning anything with any kind of depth such as artwork or 3-d objects, plus the true colours of items is sometimes difficult to obtain.)
This is where the HP scanjet G2410 is wonderful, scanning objects, photos and artwork with ease. It is also very easy and quick to set up. One of the great things about The G2410 is the access to HP website which is informative and helpful with some great links to other sights such as HP shop and 'snapfish.co.uk' (for those who haven't heard of snapfish it's a website which offers photo printing and free photo storage.)
in all the G2410 is a good scanner, great value for money and simple to use and hopefully will last as long as my first HP scanner which lasted 8 years!!.

The Scan-jet G2410 is an up-date of a basically similar model. Simpler switches are an improvement - and they work. The new software is terrible - unnecessarily complicated for such a basic unit. Previous software was much easier and quicker to use.

I bought the HP Scanjet G2410 Flatbed scanner a month or so ago; I do not need a whole lot, so I went for pretty much the cheapest scanner I could find. In addition, I had a similar looking scanner before (the HP Scanjet 2200C), which lasted long and which I was very content with - so I hoped I would get the same quality again with my new buy.

The scanner worked fine for a couple of pictures, but suddenly started to get "stuck" after scanning. The sensor would move almost all the way to the near-end - but only almost - at which point it would stop moving, and the motor would begin making loud noises that'll make you jump and unplug the scanner before something rips or tears off. After plugging in the scanner again, the sensor would move to its initial position, as if nothing has happened. Now, this does not happen every time, but - I'd say, one out of three scans, it'll happen. Of course, when I brought it back to the store to demonstrate, it did not.

Searching on the Internet for the symptoms I found heaps of other people with the same problem. One even managed to get a replacement device, which did the same problem - which makes me believe that the issues I am experiencing are common for this model.

There are other drawbacks: The HP software you need to use for scanning (unless you want Windows' generic TWAIN application) is big, slow and clunky. If you care about getting a lightweight install on your computer - this is not it.

Because of all this, I strongly recommend that you avoid this scanner.

I received this within 24 hours of purchase, despite free delivery estimate of 5 days! Well done Amazon. Simple to set up, easy to use with quick scan button integral to flat bed scanner. However, software supplied does have a big drawback, which I have tried to get around and failed. Basically, once you have scanned an image, the software then loads up ALL of your "My Pictures" file, taking a long time about it, and causing PC to "hang". This is OK if you want to play about with the image and your previous pictures, but annoying if you just want to print out the scanned image quickly. There does not seem to be a way of stopping it loading up, either in the manual (on disk) or with the help of internet. Does not scan film negative/slides. On the plus side it can scan 3D objects.
