One feature on the desktop (which makes it parent & child friendly) is an icon to set the laptop up for kids. I don't need this feature but I reckon if you're a parent and your young kids are going to use it, it is a time saver and a comfort to follow some sort of wizard to set it up for safety before the young 'uns use it, rather than figuring it all out for yourself. Very pleased with this purchase and Amazon doing well again as the seller.
I have never felt the urge to write an Amazon review in the past, but I feel my experiences with this notebook deserve a wee mention.
Having been bought this notebook last Christmas (and choosing it myself for its excellent specs, looks and because I was such a Mac cynic), I am already considering turning to the dark side and joining the owners of the world and their shiny, shiny Apple Macs. The notebook first started misbehaving only a couple of months after purchase, when it was notably more noisy (though it wasn't the quietest to start with). This worsened in time, and it has now got to the stage where it will shut itself down within fifteen minutes of being switched on. It gets so dangerously hot that the rubber feet which were on the bottom have fallen off, probably due to the glue melting. The charging pack also becomes so hot that it is painful to even pick it up after half an hour. Worse, I also noticed that random screws kept appearing whenever I lifted it up, and checked to find that they have come out of the bottom of the notebook.
In addition, about two months ago the right hinge became unscrewed from within the casing (so I cannot easily fix it) and so now it is difficult to even close the notebook without warping the whole casing. The laptop rarely leaves the house, but not being able to use it is very frustrating for a law student in the final year of my degree.
Maybe my experiences are a one off, but the number of issues I have had is slightly disconcerting. In short, this notebook may look pretty at first, but its construction is bordering on abominable and it is hardly reliable after six months.
Shame on HP, perhaps the most useless company on the planet. I am amazed they can even build a laptop in the first place if their support is anything to go by. Mind you, their payment system worked flawlessly, removing the cash from my bank in a fraction of a second.
Verdict: Better hope it doesn't go wrong!
I didn't want to give one star. In my opinion this product does not deserve even that. What good is a broken computer that cannot be fixed?
The only glitch i had was that it needed a hp update to connect to my sky wireless modem, which took me a while to figure out, but once i downloaded the update (2mins max!) it detected my network and the network of everyone within about 5 houses of mine!
So if your considering getting one, my advice is do, you most certainly wont be disappointed!!
