Original HP supplies
Ink is much more than just coloured water; the unique, hi-tech formula for HP ink is designed to work with all the mechanical parts of the print cartridge, and the printer itself, to deliver high quality results across a wide range of papers, in a variety of environmental conditions.
Why Original HP Inks?
It takes up to three years to develop new inks, so a huge amount of work goes into producing Original HP Inks, from the selection of superior ingredients to precision engineering of both the chemical formula of the ink and the high-performance ink cartridge components.
The print cartridge itself is the product of years of research and development and is much more than just an ink tank. The integrated print head on an HP cartridge includes an intelligent circuit that controls the hundreds of nozzles, each finer than a human hair, which deliver the ink onto the page. Each drop of ink is fired onto the page on the back of a tiny vapour blast of heat 7 times the intensity of the sun that lasts for just two millionths of a second; this energy blast exposes the ink drop to forces up to one million G's. Some of the latest Original HP ink cartridges can deliver in excess of 29 million drops per second.
In many of HP's home printers, over 50% of the printing technology is contained within the cartridge itself; which means every time you replace your Original HP Ink Cartridge you are installing a brand new print engine. Original HP Inks are developed in conjunction with HP papers to ensure maximum compatibility and performance. The result is the perfect balance of colour, permanence and reliability.

So far, I'm delighted with it. It is very easy to set up indeed and works flawlessly with all our devices on WiFi (Macs, PCs, iPhones and iPads). It's quiet compared to my old laser printer and surprisingly quick at printing textual documents. As is to be expected from an inkjet, the document print quality isn't quite as sharp as my old laser but its still good. An all-in-one is usually a compromise when compared with the best single purpose devices but for me the Photosmart is perfectly good enough at each task for my home office needs. I particularly like the sheet feeder because it makes scanning multi-page documents so much faster and convenient than my old flatbed scanner.
Be aware that the printer has an embedded web server that allows you to administrate it from a browser. There is no security on this whatsoever. It doesn't require a login or use https assuming that if you got on the secure WiFi network then you are to be trusted. That's not a problem for me but might be an issue for some environments.
The only minor criticism I have is that the tray extender you need to pull out to catch your printed A4 sheets is very flimsy and I can easily imagine someone accidentally breaking it when walking past or leaning over the device.
I would recommend the Photosmart to anyone wanting an all-in-one device for a home office.
This printer has exceeded my expectations. It's classy looking, with great features that suit all my needs. Exceptionally easy to set-up and I had no trouble setting it up through my WiFi network and connecting to a Desktop running XP connected through a WiFI router and a WiFi enabled Laptop running Vista. EPrint facility worked a treat when tested (UK based). The quality of the prints is great although I've not done much in colour yet.
Overall this printer represents great features at a reasonable price (look at Currys before buying from this site).
I bought two of these units and both have the same issues. Doing a full HP uninstall and reinstall sometimes works for a few days, until it doesn't. It's not just on Windows, but on the Mac as well that all these issues prop up. If you're on a Mac with the latest operating system, Snow Leopard, which was released August 28, 2009 (HELLO HP!!!!! 2009!!!!), you can't use the Scan-to-computer feature, but instead need to use either the HP scan software or your Mac's software to scan which means trips back and forth between printer and computer. So much for saving time and resources with this. Also, some of the HP software doesn't work on certain new Mac models, and though you can install through the network, don't. It's preferable to use the USB. It's been more reliable and worked for a lot longer.Read more ›
