Aimed at younger readers the book offers a few sentences on each page related to some aspect of equine information. The author has kept the information simple and to the point and it flows well but I feel it would benefit from being trialled a bit more with reading out loud to say 7 8 and 9 year olds and then redrafted. It reads rather flatly. There are some nods in the direction of the reader, for example:the aside about imagining if you had to sleep standing up, and maybe the author should adopt more of this conversational tone. Nice collection of photos.

Horses are the kind of animal everyone loves. Many children want to have a horse to ride. Everyone loves to look at horses, and horses play an important part in our lives.

Emma Child, the author, is the author of several Amazing Animal Kingdom Series. She has always been fascinated by nature and inspired by a love of animals. Her books for children are educational and fun. She has written this book about horses that contains so much information. The photos are exceptional, if you click on them, the picture will enlarge. The better to see you with, my dear!

Parents/teachers will have a great deal of fun reading this book to their children. The children can tell tales of their experiences with horses. They can also share the information they learned while reading this book. There are 400 different breeds or kinds of horses. They like to live with other horses or in herds. Did you know horses sleep standing up? They only heed 3-4 hours of sleep a day. They have very strong legs and have approximately 205 bones in their bodies. These and many, many more facts are available in this book. You will be amazed at what you learn about horses. Note: a complimentary copy of this book was provided for use and review.

As in her other books in this series, the author makes the subject information easy for the younger readers to understand and provides lots of great photos that can be enlarged by double clicking (or double tapping if reading on an eReader device, in my case, a Kindle Fire).

This is a nice gentle introduction for any child who wants to learn about these beautiful animals.

HASH(0x991e4a80) out of 5 stars Child Friendly With Lots of Horse Facts and Photos 18 Jan. 2014
By M. Erb - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Horses: Fun Facts and Amazing Photos of Animals in Nature is geared for children yet I found myself discovering a few things about horses that I did not know.

The book is written in a child friendly style. The sentences are short and the reading level is child appropriate. The author encourages child response by asking little questions throughout the text. I love the little questions because when reading this book to a child, the questions gives the child an opportunity to engage, think and more completely comprehend the material.

Small photos accompany each page but I wished the photos had been larger.

This is a fun, quick reading book and kids will love it.

I was provided a reading copy for review.

Emma child has created a lovely book explaining many fascinating things about horses. It is written in a very friendly style. You will learn how to approach horses properly, find out what they love to eat and discover how they live in the wild and captivity. There are lots of pictures too. Overall this is a very enjoyable short book that kids will enjoy.

HASH(0x991e4b40) out of 5 stars Entertaining and educational 11 Feb. 2014

"HORSES" is from the "Amazing Animal Kingdom Series". There are lots of pictures and information about horses, from basic anatomy and the history of horses to equine terminology, what horses actually do with themselves all day, some of their needs, etc. It also explores specific breeds and various aspects of domestication.

This book is suitable for any child old enough to be interested in horses. It is also interesting for adults, who are sure to learn a fact or two.

The text does briefly discuss equine mating, but it omits discussion of the anatomical or mechanical aspects of fertilization and might leave some youngsters with the impression that this is accomplished by sniffing and licking. On the other hand, this would be a good book with which to broach the topic when the time is right.

HASH(0x992882ac) out of 5 stars Want a horse? Read this book! 23 Jan. 2014

Like her book on Dinosaurs, this book on Horses is written in a child-friendly manner. Her style is easy to read, engaging, and her subject matter interesting.

What child, especially a girl, hasn't dreamed of owning her or his own horse at one time or another?

There are lots of interesting facts in this book, such as the classification "pony" refers to the size of the horse, not a breed or age. Male horses have more teeth than female horses, who knew?

The photographs compliment the text beautifully.

If you have a child in your life, especially one born and raised in the city, this is an excellent book for them to read and broaden their horizons and knowledge base.

I was furnished with a review copy.

HASH(0x992882c4) out of 5 stars Great Photos and Clearly Written For Young Readers 14 Mar. 2014
By Margaret W. Dendler - Published on Amazon.com

It is really great to see a kindle version of a picture book style book done well so the photos show with the text and are clear and supportive of what is written. There were a couple of grammar/technical errors, but most people won't even notice them. I recommended this to my horse-loving great niece when it was on a free offer, and I'm sure she will love it. Highly recommend for horse lovers.
