I bought this after experiencing severe lag whilst playing Super Smash Brothers Ultimate online with several friends living fairly close to me.
Short story: It fixed the lag.
*You may need to go into your settings and select "Wired Connection" while the Switch is docked.
More details:
My router supports 802.11ac and I have fibre internet. The router achieves around 400-700Mbps via WLAN depending on the device connected, and there are approximately 10 devices connected wirelessly. The router is capable of 1Gbps on a wired connection using a Cat5e or above cable.
The Switch is connected using the 5GHz band when on wireless.
The connection test via the Switch reports the same internet download/upload speed for wired and wireless. Thus, it was deduced that a wireless connection did not impact the internet speed available to it. The difference laid in the stability of that connection. Also consider that on wireless, the electrical signals are transduced into radio waves thus increasing latency.
Testing for approximately 10 minutes with a friend in Europe who also has fibre internet, there was no perceived lag for either of us when using a wired connection.
Testing the wired connection with friends closer to me, we tried several stages; large stages, stages with animation in the background, scrolling stages, and stages that morph, yet the experience was no different to a local match.
We tried 1v1 and 4v4 which did not affect the quality of the connection.
Previously, on wireless, the lag made the game virtually unplayable online. It also impacted the NES online 2 player mode rather detrimentally, but did not affect Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to any noticable degree.
Further testing showed significant improvements when using a wired connection and employing some higher level gameplay techniques in Smash. We tried perfect shield, dash cancelling, and "tech"-ing off rebounds. All worked as expected, thus strongly confirming this device delivered on its promise for me.
When reading other reviews, I felt compelled to write a more thorough and analytical review in the hopes of aiding others considering purchasing this peripheral, because £25 for an adapter isn't cheap!

Bought a cheaper USB to LAN adapter for my Switch which was incompatible with it causing a bit of frustration, especially with the length of the cable being unable to fit inside the back of the Dock.
This Adapter, however, is designed especially for the Switch so it fits comfortably in the back of the Dock and required no further setup once it was plugged in really.
Online play feels a lot smoother now and Download speeds have increased significantly (as to be expected of a wired connection) so I couldn't recommend this adapter enough!

I was getting 40mbps on my 350mbit connection and thought hard wiring the switch into my network would allow me to go faster. Nope. My speed has gone down to 36mbps. These tests are run via the system menu on the switch.
Besides stability, this feels a bit like a waste of money. It is of high quality though and the cable is long enough for it to come out the dock and be hidden behind it.

the supplier of this item is brilliant and the delivery was exception, this review is more to do with the item itself
it is 100% the best one you can buy and should ONLY buy, however this still doesn't give you secure speeds. my wifi touches on 40mbps, this cable hits between 70-95mbps and whilst this is great for gaming, its still laggy. and gameplay feels better through WIFI sometimes.
anyways, only ever buy this adaptor, i've tried the others and they are rubbish

Moved my Switch from the living room to the bedroom so this in tandem with a powerline adapter and my connection is flawless.
Worked first time straight out of the box, did not even have to change any settings on the Switch, it just instantly recognised I was connected via LAN as soon as I powered it on.

Nice having this for Nintendo Switch to connect an Ethernet cable. Also more special when its licensed by Nintendo so you feel have all the licensed accessories for this console. Arrived very quickly!

I had bought the adapter last year, however only now wanted to use it, and opened it out of it's packaging. To my surprise, it just does not work at all, and I do not know how to get support for the item.

First one that I was sent didn't work, returned for a replacement and the new one works perfectly. Improved my download speed on my Switch from 2.2 Mbps to 60 Mbps. I would definitely recommend.
