whereas other recorders are able, in playback, to display the sub-titles effectively on those same channels.
On some channels, after a few minutes the sub-titles go ahead of the speech. The only way of correcting this is to stop and re-start the playback ( several times during a one hour program).
This means that the Humax HDR- 2000T is not suitable for people who rely on sub-titles.
It does series record and put the series into individual folders, you can record 2 programs at the same time and watch a recorded one but not watch another channel unless you watch through normal TV.
Like other Freeview boxes when installing new channels or updates you will lose any recordings you have waiting but not any that you have done.
The only downside I have found is, it takes a little while to come on, but apart from that it's a good machine (so far).
The only thing I'd suggest is not to put this box in the bedroom for two reasons:
1. The fancy light on the front is very bright and I haven't found a way to turn it off.
2. If you're recording a channel and watching another the box has a kind of 'hard drive drumbeat' going on that's really annoying and quite loud. Watching a recording or having the box on the channel that's recording resolves this.
I love the fact that I can move Xvids on to the box and the menu and guide is really intuitive. The remote control is also nice to use albeit the noisy bubble-wrap-pop button press.
7/10 from me.
31/12/15 Update: I bought and reviewed this box back in March this year and a couple of months after the box started playing up. When booted the hard-drive will not always spin-up meaning you can't record, watch recordings or do anything hard-drive related. This has become a really annoying issue. To get the HD to spin up I have to put the box back into standby then try again. Sometimes I even need to pull the mains out. For this, I'm lowering my review and recommending people avoid this box, it appears to be plagued with issues.
I initially had a lot of problems with the quality of my picture and some recordings failed as the channels were not available, and even viewing a programme I kept losing the picture. This was not a problem with my aerial nor my TV but the recording box. After a few days I contacted Humax support and would score them 100% for their prompt & helpful advice. I was advised to re-install the box MANUALLY and they gave me very detailed instructions, everything now seems to be ok. When a channels need upgrading I will have to continue installing manually. This model as with the other 2 allows me to record 2 channels at once and watch most other channels at the same time.
I am unable to comment regarding connecting directly to the internet or viewing personal photos on the TV as this is something I probably will never use.
Easy to set-up
Nice interface and program guide
Good Picture quality
Easy to tune and picked up all the channels
Good menu functionality for program guide
Sound Quality OK
Has a volume control (so no need for two remotes)
Has lip sync function to delay audio
Fairly small and looks ok
Catch-up content is basically BBC iplayer and Youtube, there's no ITV, 4OD etc and no indication when this might come
Humax will not release any information regarding what or when more online content will be available.
Slow boot up of unit from standby
BBC iplayer app is very basic
Switching between recorded programs, online media, catch-up tv and normal TV is too difficult.
LED to say the unit is on is too big
Unit has crashed (frozen) a couple of times particularly when switching between radio and TV.
It's not that clear when the unit is actually recording as it uses the same LED as standby
Overall: Average, not that impressed. Could be better and needs more catch-up TV and online apps.
