I bought this cable 2 weeks ago to link my Dell Dimension 5150 PC to my Sony Bravia TV. The cable does exactly what it should and the picture quality is great.

If you do want to link your PC to HD TV via DVI to HDMI cable, then please be aware of the following:

a) If you are using a Nvidia Geoforce Graphics Card (mine was a XFX Geoforce 8400 GS) you can get audio over the cable, but there must be an internal (2 pin) S-PDIF cable between the graphics card and your PC's motherboard or sound card. If your motherboard (or sound card) doesn't have a 2 pin S-PDIF output (like on my PC) then you can't link them up. The problem is that the Nvidia graphics cards still send a 'blank' audio signal out of the DVI port. This then stops the TV accepting a separate sound source, such as from a 3.5mm jack cable between the PC and TV (ie the DVI to HDMI cable carries the picture and 3.5mm jack cable caries the sound). There was no way around this problem with the Nvidia card, so I invested in an ATI HD 4550 card as I had read that ATI include a sound card on-board their graphics cards. Ah, if only it were that simple - see my next point!

b) If you are using an ATI HD 3xxx or HD 4xxx series graphics card that only has DVI out for HD signals (many cards now have a HDMI port) then the sound can be sent through the DVI output, but only if you have a special ATI DVI to HDMI dongle (you then need a HDMI to HDMI cable). This DVI to HDMI cable (or any others) just won't convert/carry the audio signal. Unfortunately the ATI Dongles are about a common as Hens' Teeth (I couldn't find any UK suppliers). However, unlike the Nvidia card, the ATI system does not send a 'blank' audio signal down the DVI to HDMI cable. So I could add the 3.5mm jack cable to carry the audio.

Used this to link an older Macbook Pro (pre Oct 2008) to a Panasonic Viera using the HDMI 4 port on the side of the TV; obviously any free HDMI port will do. No adaptor needed for older Macbook Pros that have an ordinary DVI port with screw holes on either side. Good quality and there was no need to adjust computer settings. You will need an audio cable from the headphone socket on the computer to go into the TV audio input (single 3.5mm jack to RCA red and white phono plugs ) 5m 3.5mm Jack to 2 x RCA Cable - Premium Quality / Audio / Stereo / Male to Male and I recommend a decent length of both cables, e.g. 5 metres. You then need to go into your TV sound settings and whichever HDMI port you have chosen and change the input there. The audio can also connect to an AV receiver instead (use the phono ports at the front for ease of use as this is probably a temporary set-up) for better sound.

This does exactly what I purchased it for. I wanted to push the video signal from my PC out to my HD tv and this does it. After connecting the two all that was required was configuring the desktop display options and it all worked!

I am using the cable to connect my Dell 5100 PC to a Sony Bravia KVL 4000 LCD TV (2009) ( or something like that).
The cable provides an excellent image on the TV. As other reviewers have said the cable will only carry the display and no sound owing to DVI from the computer.

This is not a problem however as a simple 3.5mm cable does the trick. I initially made the mistake of trying to use an AV cable ( the one with a white and red jack on one end). This gave me sound but on a different AV TV channel to the image, which is not ideal because I did not want one or the other on the TV.

The problem was solved very simply by using a 3.5 mm cable with the same single plugs on each end ( about £6.00 or less). One end goes into the head-phone socket on the front of your PC ; the other into the single socket on the back of the TV , close to the VGA port and HDMI ports. Ignore all the coloured sockets.

You then need to use the control on the TV and first of all find the channel with the computer screen image on. This will be one of the HDMI channels , depending on which port you inserted the cable. Once you have the image go into the menu, go to settings , go ( in my case) to PC Audio input and click the HDMI option. If there is no sound , leave the sound cable where it is and use a different HDMI port for the cable and if necessary use the remote control again ( as above). I understand that a point here is you will only get sound and image on one of the HDMI ports on the back of the TV. Mine is HDMI 3. After a little trial and error you should get the image and sound together.

So , if you have similar equipment it is not an expensive job with your PC. I hope this assists those who are not overly technical.

Could not agree more with the reviews here, the cable does its job with a bargain price to boot. I wanted this from my PC to the TV and it works 100%. It's perhaps not the same build quality as a more expensive cable so perhaps 3 stars for the build quality, but certainly 5 stars here from me over all for doing the same job at a much lower price. Would I recommend it? Yes 100%.

I made a mistake by giving this product a negative review, which was initially meant for another supplier, and for which I have apologised in writing to World of Data Ltd.

This is an excellent product which allows me a simple connection from my PC to my HD television. It's a quality cable which works great and without issue, and offers great picture quality.
