Small But Effective
I have used many Hardware Raid Units but this was so far the smallest one. Package contents: - Dual Bay Enclosure - USB 3.0 Cable - Quick User Guide - Small Screw Driver - 2 Foam pads - 1 Sticker Set The enclosure is simple to use, chose the SSD's or HDD's that we want to use and insert them in the enclosure, then we have to connect the USB cable to our computer, chose the type of hardware raid that we want by pressing the 2 sticks that we see on my video and pictures We can select from JBOD which will be a single disk (individual) configuration, Raid 0 or Raid 1 In terms of speed, the enclosure has UASP support that allows us to use full speed of USB 3.0 and in my tests i used a ADATA SU800 that can reach as you guys can see 400 MB/S on Write and 415 MB/S on Reads I also used a Samsung 840 EVO and as it is slower than the ADATA it will lower the global speed when using in a Raid 0 or Raid 1 configuration. But this will happen with any Raid unit, it will always give us the slowest drive speed and the lower capacity when using 2 or more disks. The experience overall has been great and this unit is particular useful when used with one SSD for speed and a HDD for storage with my laptop on the go. By the way the unit as we can see has a external power jack (Micro USB port) but i still haven't had the need to connect it to a external power source as the USB 3.0 is capable of powering the unit by its own

    The product gets 5 stars for price, functionality and simplicity and 3 stars for manufacturing quality. The price of the product is excellent. It can house 2 hdd's 5400 rpm without external power, which is excellent as you only have one usb 3 cable. With the press of a button you can switch between Raid 0, Raid 1 and JBOD. What more can you ask? My only complain is that the had drive lock mechanism broke after 3 times of trying to lock the 2 hdd's, which is unacceptable. This does not cause a problem in its functionality, but it means the quality is not what you might expect, even for its price. Overall, a very good product, in the best possible price.

    Don't Buy it. I had two SSD in as RAID 0 and it had failed twice.
  • Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 September 2017
    Setting up RAIDs and JBOD was easy but the build quality was poor. The locking mechanism is two cheap pieces of plastic clipped together which when locked slide into catches on the top and bottom parts of the case which hold the HDDs. Unfortunately the top and bottom of the case are not interchangeable even though the look identical. In my case they had been put on the wrong way and consequently even though it was in the unlock position the top and bottom were locked. So when I slid them off the locking bits flew off with one part being broken.

    After a few months usage bits began falling off the usb connector and soldered joints began to crack. This is the 2nd 2bay enclosure I have had and the same happened with the last one, only last time it corrupted the drive and i lost over a terrabyte of stuff.... Amazon should be checking the quality of its advertised products,before selling them on its site, but like every other major retailer, they don't care, they are only here to make money,!

    I had a couple of intel 240gb ssd drives I wanted to use as game storage on a xbox one
    however you need drives of 256gb minimum size on xbox one
    This little box works on the xbox one and shows the two drives as a single 480gb drive
    also there is a noticeable decrease in the loading times on all games I have moved to it
    about 3 times faster compared to my old drive I was using with the Xbox one externaly
    see photo so with my old drive as well I have high speed and storage in the ssd for current titles
    and it gets around the 2 drive limitation of the xbox one
    (I tested the drive on my PC to see how fast it is is before adding to my xbox one see photo)
    also as the ssd drives are low power I did not need additional power for them to work

    This is a very clever and neat little box. I put mine into Raid 1 mode. Which means that when I store a file on "it", the file is stored on both drives at the same time - this was exactly what I was after. It is like all those other RAID boxes - except it is smaller and cheaper. Most of the time, I keep it unconnected and hidden from view. When I want to back a file up, I just connect it to the PC with the USB lead supplied.

    I put a couple of SSDs in mine - for maximum speed, meximum reliability, and minimum power consuption. Then I don't bother with the power connection (although I did when I first loaded up all my waiting files).

    There were some hiccups when formatting the system. My SSDs were unformatted, and the Raid enclosure was also unformatted. I had to reach back to a Windows 8 laptop, because Windows 10 makes everything difficult. Once I had formatted the individual drives, I then formatted the whole system. So the individual drive letters were replaced by the single drive letter for the pair. Now I have got over the formatting hump, everything is wonderful.

    What this means for me is that I never have to back anything up. I will always have 2 copies on ultra-reliable SSDs, and if one of them fails, I am covered. It is exactly the situation I wanted to be in.

    For £35 plus two drives you could be in the same position. Safe, secure, and backed-up.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Good Device but still some issues.
    Reviewed in the United States on 3 October 2017
    UPDATE 2: upon further testing. I have boiled it down to power issue with my surface pro 2017. I tested with my 13" macbook pro and it worked flawlessly. Fast and stable on battery power (not plugged in) and the usb port is able to power the raid enclosure no problem. So my main laptop SPro2017 is the issue. So moving it up the 4 stars, will change to 5 if I can get a replacement usb3 cable. Still borrowing one for now. But since my main computer is my SPro2017 needed a way to power this unit with just battery power. And so happen had a credit card size power bank, works great for it. Last for about 2 hours and more then enough while editing on the road. Most of the time just need to read whats on the raid enclosure and thats no issue. attached pics of credit card battery pack attached. So if any other Surface Pro users out there looking to get this you can but with this extra battery.

    UPDATE 1: ok after playing with it for awhile. I have some weird results. If I want to have this work fast and stable, you need to have the extra 5v power. If I don't use the extra 5v power, I'm able to read all the data on the drive. Any apps, music, photos I launch will run just fine. Only is issue is writing to the drive without 5v power. If you don't have the 5v can't write a thing. It tries then stops and the drive auto disconnects. Guessing my USB3 port on my Surface Pro 2017 doesn't have enough juice. I'm not sure, maybe its just a bad unit, since the usb3 cable was bad. I think will try one more time, see what I get the 2nd time.

    Got the item in today. Got it working with 2 - of my SSD drives. Still doing more testing but problem number 1 is that it came with a bad usb 3.0 cable. I first thought the unit was bad. Tried using a 2.0 USB cable with another for power and was able to see my Raid 0 drive. Luckily one of my friends had a usb3.0 cable and that one worked fine without needing to plug in another cable for power.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Besser als eine externe Singlefestplatte..
    Reviewed in Germany on 6 September 2017

    Alte Notebooks (als Nas) haben auf Dauer einen zu hohen Stromverbrauch.. ebenso Synology ud Co.
    Ebenso bin ich kein Freund davon mein Netzwerk dauerhaft von aussen erreichbar zu machen.
    So oft benötigt man sowas als Normalo wohl kaum.

    Single externe Festplatte zu unsicher.
    Ausfall = Totalausfall
    Lebensdauer einer FP 5-8 Jahre, wenn es gut läuft.

    Alles zu umständlich um kurzfristig Daten mobil mitzunehmen und ausfallsicher vorzuhalten..

    Per Zufall fand ich das Produkt auf Amazon.

    Also zum Produkt an sich:
    Es Funktioniert.
    Mobil , ausfallsicher und nur dann am Netz wenn man es tatsächlich brauch.

    Habe zwei alte 320 GB Notebookplatten eingebaut und Raid1 eingestellt, um beim Ausfall einer Platte nicht meine Daten (Fotos) zu verlieren.

    Ebenso habe ich den Desasterfall getestet (Eine Platte rausgezogen).
    Die Daten sind ebenso auf der anderen Platte vorhanden.
    Man muss aber beachten, dass bei einem Fehlerfall, man die Daten der "guten Platte" wegsichern muss, bevor man einfach die andere wieder hineinsteckt.
    Ansonsten hat man zwei Platten mit unterschiedlichen Ständen.

    Wie erkennt man, dass eine Platte kaputt ist, ein Fehler vorliegt?
    Nur wenn ALLE drei Lampen leuchten (Front + Hdd1 , Hdd2) ist alles i.O.
    Leuchtet eine nicht stimmt was nicht.

    Jdob= zwei seperate Platten
    Raid1= Mirror /Spiegel (mein Anwendungsfall/Kaufgrund)
    Raid0= wie eine große Festplatte.
    Ausfall einer Platte führt zu totalem Datenverlust!

    Kein Netzteil dabei.

    Hoffe es konnte euch helfen.

    Besser als eine externe Singlefestplatte..

    Reviewed in Germany on 6 September 2017
    Ich arbeite als Admin.. und verfasse nur selten Produktbewertungen.

    In der Vergangenheit habe ich öfters NAS systeme für mich selbst aufgesetzt.

    RaspPI zu langsam (usb 2.0 wird mit Netzleitung geteilt)

    BananaPI ok aber nur Singleplatte möglich oder mittels Adapter oder UsbstickLösung mehr Datensicherheit möglich.
    Allerdings werden Usbsticks im Dauerbetrieb heiss und ein Ausfall ist absehbar.

    Alte Notebooks (als Nas) haben auf Dauer einen zu hohen Stromverbrauch.. ebenso Synology ud Co.
    Ebenso bin ich kein Freund davon mein Netzwerk dauerhaft von aussen erreichbar zu machen.
    So oft benötigt man sowas als Normalo wohl kaum.

    Single externe Festplatte zu unsicher.
    Ausfall = Totalausfall
    Lebensdauer einer FP 5-8 Jahre, wenn es gut läuft.

    Alles zu umständlich um kurzfristig Daten mobil mitzunehmen und ausfallsicher vorzuhalten..

    Per Zufall fand ich das Produkt auf Amazon.

    Also zum Produkt an sich:
    Es Funktioniert.
    Mobil , ausfallsicher und nur dann am Netz wenn man es tatsächlich brauch.

    Habe zwei alte 320 GB Notebookplatten eingebaut und Raid1 eingestellt, um beim Ausfall einer Platte nicht meine Daten (Fotos) zu verlieren.

    Ebenso habe ich den Desasterfall getestet (Eine Platte rausgezogen).
    Die Daten sind ebenso auf der anderen Platte vorhanden.
    Man muss aber beachten, dass bei einem Fehlerfall, man die Daten der "guten Platte" wegsichern muss, bevor man einfach die andere wieder hineinsteckt.
    Ansonsten hat man zwei Platten mit unterschiedlichen Ständen.

    Wie erkennt man, dass eine Platte kaputt ist, ein Fehler vorliegt?
    Nur wenn ALLE drei Lampen leuchten (Front + Hdd1 , Hdd2) ist alles i.O.
