Product description

Review

The perfect gift for new parents, H is for Hummus is a wittily observed ABC which highlights the realities of middle class parenting - B is for Babyccino, C is for Catchment, R is for Reward Chart, W is for Wheat Intolerant... Spot on and very funny (Mumsnet)

A jokey alphabet book that adults find funny, too. F is for Farrow and Ball, for example! (Jennifer Saunders)

Brings the vocabulary of modern parenting right up to date, and makes gentle fun of unwritten middle-class rules, as well as the essential products and customs that parents subscribe to: dough balls at Pizza Express, Trunkis and Micro Scooters (the only brand to be seen with)... (Sunday Telegraph)

Fabulous - brilliantly reflects the busy lives of the modern-day toddler. The perfect antidote to the traditional ABC book, and the perfect gift for parents, new, old, and soon to be (The Adventures of Sonny & Luca)

About the Author

Joel Rickett is a publisher and a (very) occasional writer. His previous books include How To Avoid Huge Ships and Whitstable Mum in Custard Shortage. He lives in North London (of course), where he's a thoroughly modern parent to two gorgeous, demanding girls.

Spencer Wilson is an illustrator and co-founder of the design and animation company Peepshow Collective. He has been working to commission since 1998 in a world of coffee cups and ordered chaos; his work follows this theme with the creation of sketchy ideas and twisted thoughts. He lives in the modern parenting paradise that is Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, with his wife and two girls who never cease to inspire him. www.spencerwilson.co.uk

While this book was promarily bought for my son to read with his daughter in mind I sneaked a look at it to find it very amusing and informative. It' s layout with the letters and related cartoon will make a hard task much easier for my son. The bright colours are eye-catching and attractive to the child and the figures are very easy for a child to identify as 'one of their own size' Well done.

This is funny for parents (who often struggle to see the funny side, esp at 4am), and then I found my 6-y-o engrossed in it (I think it's the gorgeous illustrations, and kids' fascination with all things baby-related). Win, win! Parents need all the laughs they can get, IMHO.

A great, fun book that turns the traditional ABC on its head. My 5 year old daughter who has just started reading loved it. We both laughed while reading. Would make a great Christmas present!

A great alternative to the usual 'A is for Apple' type of book.
Very modern and very apt, especially if you're from the west end (of Glasgow, that is).
Nice illustrations and nicely printed/bound.
Even my child-less friends enjoyed reading it!

This was bought as a gift for a friend who has recently become a dad for the first time. The illustrations are lovely and it's a tongue in cheek look at the world of modern parenting, plus he's a big hummus fan! Lovely book!

Loved this at first and intended it for my daughter but just in time, noticed the letter I is for IVF. She has just been through utter trauma with IVF so although the author may think it's amusing and typically middle class, it's not funny. The possibility is that she would shrug it off but I couldn't take the chance and returned the book.

I bought this for my niece who has just become a parent and for myself. I found it to be a beautifully illustrated book that resonated with me on so many levels, not least as a 'squeezed middle' class parent. It also appealed to my children because the illustrations are so colourful. It raised more than a chuckle!
