I've suffered from IBS for years and this book gave me information on the human gut and how it can affect the brain, which foods are good for our gut microbes, and many more fascinating and intriguing facts.

Giulia Enders has successfully written her book in a style that is easily understood by the layman. There are instances where I felt she had gone into a little more detail than necessary but in general it has been written in a thoroughly educational manner dealing thoroughly with the subject. She sets out to explain what Hippocrates told us thousands of years ago, "All Disease Starts in the Gut" and for me she proved her case adequately. She demonstrates how the gut is the second brain controlling everything simply from our food through to the friendly bacteria that do all the work in our digestive system and finally our physical and mental wellbeing.
Knowing how little education medical students receive on the subject during their long period of medical training, I would recommend that it be required reading for all medical students and indeed for many of our G.Ps too who,all too often, have little understanding of the subject.
In particular Dr. Enders explains how damaging a course of antibiotics can be and the length of time necessary to recover from such treatment. She does not condemn antibiotics but insists that their use should be strictly limited to cases where an alternative therapy is not available.
Buy, read, mark and inwardly digest.

This is the most interesting book I've read on what could be a very boring subject. I bought it because I am struggling with IBS and was trying to understand how the gut works, and I learned a lot while actually enjoying reading it. Five stars.
