Comment: Well-loved but cared for, and still very readable. The previous owner has certainly very much enjoyed reading this book more than once, therefore please be aware there will be some creasing on the spine or slight shelf wear. If it's been in their collection for some time, say years old or more, some pages might be discoloured and there may be other minor age blemishes, but that won't affect its readability. Shipped from the heart of the British countryside this book will leave our library within a day or two of your order and be with you shortly thereafter.

Review

The Gundog Veterinary Bible an essential resource for gundog owners. This book is written in Harvey's simple, explanatory style and is illustrated where necessary to assist diagnosis and treatment. This book has been carefully thought out and provides a useful guide to preventative health care and emergency treatment. A truly useful book to have to hand should the worst happen. --Shooting Times

Every owner needs a book on first-aid and preventative healthcare, preferably one that is easy to use and understand... this book will be helpful to owners of all breeds. There are sections on pretty much every emergency you could face - from heat stroke to hypothermia, from a broken bone to bloat. With more than 180 topics - this really is a bible! --Dogs Today

Shooting Times' vet columnist, Harvey Carruthers MRCVS, has written a new, highly accessible book on preventative health care and treatment of common problems affecting dogs. An NGO spokesman said: 'Whatever dog you own, this volume is well worth keeping in your first aid cupboard'. --NGO Keeping the Balance

This is a super book - really well laid out, clearly written and some great photos! The content covers emergency dog first aid, day to day dog care and preventative care for active, working dogs. It also advises what kind of first aid kit you should need and suggests some handy hints for homemade bandages and treatments.
It's a handy size and would be good to have in the car when you're out with the dogs but is also an interesting read!
I really liked the easy-find page tags and step-by-step guidance.
A really attractive, useful, practical book for anyone with working dogs!

This is packed full of relevant information & I hope I never need to use it in an emergency situation. Indeed, if my dog suffered any one of the traumas covered within I suspect my first reaction would be to bundle him in the car & dash to the vet though this book stands as a safety backup. The photographs are particularly useful and instructions are step-by-step. The sections covered are:-

Gundog First Aid [incl. resuscitation, stopping heavy bleeding, heat stroke]
External Injuries [incl. dog bites, foot wounds]
Internal Problem [incl. traffic accidents, back pain, fits, grass awns]
Poisoning [incl. care for ingested poison, human medications poisonous to dogs]
Signs of Health [incl. normal vital signs, gum checking]
Preventative Health Care [incl. castration/spaying]
Daily Care [incl. ear cleaning, emptying anal glands, after surgery care]
Human & Animal Health [incl. PETS scheme, Zoonoses, poisonous plants]

It's a book certainly worth dipping into from time to time and much of the info is relevant to dogs in general and not only gundogs.

Having worked dogs in excess of 30 years, this well written and explained book by a working vet will save you money! In great detail most injuries expected to working dogs are covered giving the 'layman' sufficient 'hands on' guidance to effectively complete at the very least basic first aid for the vast majority of injuries expected to a dog in a working environment.

Overall good but really very surprised he recommended adding tomato ketchup to food to encourage dogs to eat, when tomatoes are toxic to dogs.
