The guitar is a fretted string instrument that happens to be one of the most widely used in the world. Guitars are so versatile that they have a place in nearly every music genre you can think of, including classical, jazz, rock and electronic. Having a quality guitar is essential if you're in a band or thinking about making your own music, but it’s also a really fun hobby to pick up, no matter how old you are.
How To Pick The Right Guitar
Before buying your guitar, the first thing you will need to consider is if you want an acoustic or electric guitar. If you are just starting out, then you may want to opt for an acoustic guitar, as they require minimal extra gear, and are more portable. An acoustic guitar also offers more clarity in sound through its hollow body, and is much easier to use. With an electric guitar, you will need an amplifier, or else the sound will be too low. Generally speaking, most people who learn the guitar advance on to the electric guitar as the sounds that can be made on them are incredible.
What Gear Do I Need?
You will need to get yourself a few thin guitar picks to help you with strumming, while medium picks greatly help with playing individual notes and scales. Because all guitars go out of tune, a tuner is a very handy accessory to have, particularly if you are not perfect pitched. Spare strings are also a necessity, because you never know when they will get damaged. It’s important to remember that the thicker the strings, the better it will sound, although the feeling will feel tougher on your fingers.
