At his solo best. Ian's guitar playing just gets better - and his voice was already legendary.
This is a must have for all blues fans.
For those who don't know Ian's music, his guitar playing is like Rory Gallagher's (acoustic) and his voice is like Howlin' Wolf on steroids and he performs both his own arrangements of blues standards and his own compositions the latter of which stand against any seminal blues classics.

This is one man who has truly become a blues legend, and he is British. The American awards have nominated his last two albums for major awards, with his USA musicians. Here though wee have the man alone, his guitars playing a set at 2013's London Blues Festival at The Royal Albert Hall. I first saw him doing a solo live set supporting Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings a few years ago, he was the star that night but now we have by far the best true blues talent this country has ever produced, he's not in the Clapton mould but a man who has the voice of the blues, plays acoustic slide amazingly well and is one great picker of the instrument. He is a talent that really must be heard, and this is one great place to start. On his own, a clutch of great songs, full of his banter that is at times funny at times about his roots as a musician, but all the time full of the songs he does so well. nine songs plus his chat about some who he's met along the way like Big George, Charlie and Young Mickey. The opening Silver Spur (his own song ) through the traditional songs like 'Mary Don't You Weep', a stunning version of Charlie Patten's 'Pony Blues', a medley that includes 'Preachin' Blues/Live So God Can Use You/ You Gotta Move. Taj Mahal's 'Ain't Nobodies Business'. His own songs include the wonderful 'Falling On Down Again' and the intrestingly titled 'Mortal Coil Blues', and one of my personal favourites of his 'I Am The Train'. All in all this truly is one of the finest albums you'll hear thgis year, he may well have recorded a classic album that will be playeed years from now. An unmissable set by the finest traditional bluesman of his generation, get it and see what I mean.

A live album from Siegal; recorded by the BBC last year as part of the Bluesfest at the Royal Albert Hall in London – acoustic, raw, delta blues; just Siegal on the guitar, as the title suggests. He's reinvented himself quite a lot on record, playing with an assortment of bands, and this one is a lifetime away from his last two albums - The Skinny and Candy Store Kid - neither of which, if I'm honest, I particularly took to my bosom; at least compared to Meat & Potatoes or Broadside (both of which I simply adore; with The Dust and Swagger not far behind). Standouts here: Mary Don't You Weep (absolutely fantastic guitar solo); Falling On Down Again (even better than the studio original); a wonderful cover of Joe Ely's Gallo Del Cieloa and a warm, earthy reading of Stephen Collins Foster's Hard Times (Come Again No More) that’s soul-nourishingly good. Only gripe: the banter between Siegal and the audience serves to remind you that the man is quite clearly British; which is difficult to square with his Southern American singing voice. To sing rootsy blues in an English accent would sound peculiar, but then to do otherwise is slightly inauthentic... which, I hasten to add, is anything but how Siegel sounds on the songs: he oozes authenticity. It’s just a strange kind of authenticity I guess. Anyway the fact that I can overlook this minor annoyance is a testament to quite how much I dig the man's music.

Simply wonderful. Mr Siegal is a wonderful songwriter, a fabulous guitar player and his voice is extraordinarily good. 'I am the train' and 'Gallo del Cielo' are particular highlights, but every track is superb.

I have all the Ian Siegal's records. I saw and heard many of his concerts (in fact, I promoted some of them in Serbia). And, finally, I was waiting for this album all the time. This is Ian at his best, alone with his guitar, voice and audience. I was always overwhelmed with the emotion, energy and sincerity of his performance, and it's all here! If you haven't seen him live, buy this CD to get introduced to the one of today's greatest musicians. If you were lucky to meet him in concert, buy it also, it will remind you how good his show is.

Ian Siegal, captured here live at the 2013 Bluesfest at the Royal Albert Hall, provides a wonderful performance of non-standard blues songs. As well as his superb delivery of the songs his spoken links are great (might not agree with him about Charley Patton - so I'd be wrong!).

For me the standout track is Gallo Del Cielo and I so regret not being there.
