The authors do not indulge in anything other than the story of the matter of the lead up, actual take-over of Distillers, and the immediate aftermath when the jiggery-pokery embarked upon by Saunders, started to unravel. The book was published before a series of criminal prosecutions resulted in Saunders and others he involved in his malfeasances being punished.
In Saunders case his 5 year term of imprisonment, was in May 91 reduced to 2 years which he shortened even further but gaining an early release by claiming per-senile dementia for which it was thought was incurable but which in what can only be described as a miracle, Saunders had a complete recovery, and immediately embarked on another business career. Some man, hey?
The authors have eschewed from all unnecessary space filling embellishments not relevant to the subject of Ernest Saunders and the improbity of his stewardship of Guinness, and the result is a fine example of journalistic based book writing.
