Buyer beware !! This is the same book as the previous publication with the same title. The only difference is that they have put a different picture on the cover to make you think that its a new book. It's even got a different ISBN. Don't be fooled.

A very slight booklet. At the price I perhaps ought to have realised, but not what I'd hoped for.

I was disappointed on the lack of portraits in the book. I was hoping for more information regarding symbolism in the portraits as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent handbook 1 Feb. 2015
By Jane in Milwaukee - Published on Amazon.com
Antonia Fraser's writing the foreword says a lot about the quality of this book. And with Tarnya Cooper being the chief curator at the National Portrait Gallery in London, I have no clue why the other review would disparage this book. It's only 64 pages but it's packed full of interesting information. If the whole book were just the portraits, there wouldn't be enough text to explain them. There are MANY other books exhibiting every portrait in the National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery. Just look at all the other books of Tarnya Cooper's:

National Portrait Gallery: A Portrait of Britain
Elizabeth I & Her People
Searching for Shakespeare
Citizen Portrait: Portrait Painting and the Urban Elite of Tudor and Jacobean England and Wales (The Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art)
The Real Tudors: Kings and Queens Rediscovered
Imagined Lives: Mystery Portraits 1540-1640 John Banville, Tracy Chevalier, Julian Fellowes, Terry Pratchett, Sarah Singleton, Joanna Trollope, Minette Walters
