Review

'Excellent little guide' --NY Genealogical & Biographical Record

....With its superb bibliography and logical layout this represents excellent value for money and is a must for anyone with Donegal ancestors. --Who do you Think you are Magazine

'The authors are natives of the county and experienced genealogists who guide the reader through the various sources of information...(and)... explain in a straightforward way how to go about investigating your Donegal Ancestry. Anyone starting out for the first time will find this an invaluable resource' --Books Ireland

From the Back Cover

Donegal has fewer genealogical records than most Irish counties. This book sets out the records available, and where they can be accessed. Donegal families are a mixture of native Gaelic families & Scots-Irish families who came from the 17th century onward. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

By itself an interesting book with plenty of snippets of useful background information. Source information seems good, but have to deal with the practicalities of Irish descendants having gone to Scotland, with records not recording, say on census, where in Ireland they were born. But, apparently, my surname was more common to Donegal. Maybe I have some luck.

Tracing Your Donegal Ancestors is the Basic Tool for doing Donegal, Ireland research. If you could only buy one book, this is the one you want. Mr. Duffy has provided numerous tips and resources, as well as some "not too well known" resources. A MUST HAVE!
