Sandwiched between the Gulf of Suez and the Gulf of Aqaba, the Sinai peninsula juts out into the Red Sea. According to tradition, the events narrated in the Bible, in Exodus, occurred in the deserts and on the mountain tops of the Sinai. Here Moses is said to have received the Ten Commandments, and the Hebrews made their painful way along the road to the promised Land. The mountains of the Sinai culminate in Mount Saint Catherine, or Gebel Katherina, and in the Mount of Moses, or Gebel Musa, behind which stands the renowned convent of Saint Catherine. They occupy the south central portion of the Sinai peninsula and they run gradually down to the clear waters of the Red Sea. This book contains a vast number of routes for those who wish to explore the Sinai peninsula, along tracks and through wadis in a desert full of majestic and wild landscapes and along some of the loveliest coastlines on earth. The text is accompanied by maps, and photographs.
