Scot Nolan was a medically discharged SEAL with a haunted past and nightmares of his own. He kept to himself, no attachments or involvements of any kind and that is the way he liked it. A loner by his own choice. Wandering and uncertain of his life choices after the SEALs he finds Brotherhood Protectors and he feels alive again, like he has found a home with Hank Patterson’s team. His new assignment was supposed to be a breeze. To keep an eye on a woman going home to face her demons and dig for the truth behind her nightmares, he never expected to battle some of his own in the process. The fake relationship persona they have to present to the town has stirred up all kinds of feelings he thought were dead and he has to battle his desire for Jenna with the assignment of keeping her safe and adding in her traumatic past he is in a new arena he is uncertain how to navigate but he cannot step away. He is as drawn to her as she to him and he is determined to help her find answers to give her past closure so they can have a chance at a future, together.
Holt does a wonderful job of writing these two characters. I loved the fact that Jenna was level-headed, thought things through and made sound judgments even when she did not completely agree. She was stubborn and independent, used to being on her own, but was adaptable to accept Scot’s help and guidance when it was needed most to keep her safe. I also enjoyed the fact that even though there were hints to the attraction between the two, it did not take away from the overall story. Their romance was set at a nice pace and their first romantic encounter was handled with great care. Scot was not your typical alpha male. Yes, he had a gruff, glowering exterior and a macho protective side but he also had a respectful attitude towards Jenna and had a soft, gooey side once he let down his guard. I loved that he was not afraid to show his emotions and was upfront and honest with his feelings, thoughts, and hopes for the two of them. They made a great couple. This was a great read you definitely want to give a try.
