Product description

Book 2 in the Real Christianity series, "Growing in the character of a disciple", looks at what happens next, after we become a Christian, and at how we can grow into mature disciples. That involves an ongoing process of change, whereby we are meant to become more and more like Jesus Christ in our character, attitudes and conduct. Another word for this process is 'sanctification', such that we develop lives of obedience, self-sacrifice, humility and discipline. Indeed, the very word 'disciple' has the same root meaning as discipline, because it involves following and obeying Jesus in our daily lives, even when it is very hard to do so. Christian character cannot be formed overnight. It is a fruit which has to be grown and which takes years, or even decades, to develop. This book introduces you to some of the key things that are needed to bring about that growth, but it is very honest about how costly and difficult it is going to be. The book also looks at four much neglected subjects which are vital if we are to become effective disciples. These are thankfulness, faithfulness, truthfulness and forgiving others. Forgiveness, in particular, is a severely misunderstood subject. The book therefore spends time explaining what forgiveness doesn't mean, and doesn't involve, as well as what it does. That is needed because many people have such a garbled, inaccurate definition of it that they find forgiving others impossible. A proper grasp of all these issues will give you a much stronger start in the Christian life. However, even if you began many years ago, they will now help you to progress farther and faster as a disciple.
