Grounded is a cookbook for home brewing coffee. It teaches recipes and theory for the French Press, Mizudashi, Clever, Aeropress, Chemex, V60, and Wave. "Great coffee is grown carefully. It is processed intentionally. It is exported expediently. It is stored cautiously. It is roasted flavorfully. It is packaged intelligently. It is brewed... At every level of coffee production, great care is taken to ensure that crop quality doesn't diminish before reaching the consumer. But most consumers take coffee home and shrug because the brewing is a mystery. Brewing great coffee shouldn't be a shot in the dark. Grounded offers tools, recipes, and theory to answer the question "How in the world do I brew coffee?" All in the pursuit of a more delicious cup of coffee."

The book itself is part an explanation and overview of how coffee gets to the consumer (farming, exporting, etc.) and then how consumers can make a great cup of coffee with various beans once they have arrived. I have never read another book that provides so many interesting facts and insights into the making of coffee; the book takes something so everyday for many people and gives you a sense for the magic and mystery that goes into brewing a great cup of coffee.
The quality of the book itself is accentuated by the physical book itself, which is quite striking and tastefully done. It's beautifully bound with a soft, premium binding, creamy paper and font that just feel coffee-esque.
Anyone interested or passionate about coffee - or looking for a gift for someone who is - will love this book. And, fittingly, it makes a perfect coffee table piece to have around and flip through on those lazy weekend mornings when one wants to do nothing but relax perhaps while enjoying a warm cup of well-made, grounded coffee.
Grounded both explains coffee brewing fundamentals and details specific brewing techniques, with a focus on the brewing methods du jour. There are also unique, future-leaning recipes for coffee cocktails and inventive drinks, but I think the real value is that this book is basically an encyclopedia of brewing coffee at home.
Easy to read and simple to follow, the recipes and techniques in Grounded helped me perfect each cup and inspired me to try new brewing methods.
I recommend it to all!
