Product Description

Review

"The utter relevance and poignancy of these often deceptively anecdotal funnies make Inman a Gary Larson for the iPad generation." (Publishers Weekly)

Praise for How to Tell If Your Cat Is Plotting to Kill You:

“Matt is the first native stand-up comic of the Internet. This book, and all his work, shows just how perfectly he nails the pulse of the Web dwellers like me. While this book is printed on paper, it oozes what's great about the weird, quirky, but genuinely awesomeness of the Web — and Matt Inman.”

 (Ben Huh, CEO of ICanHasCheezburger.com)

"If Inman isn't a king of the Internet, he's certainly among its royalty. The Oatmeal is one of the most popular humor sites on the web." (Todd Leopold, CNN)

"In 2009, Inman put his hand to the page, and the world hasn't stopped laughing since." (Nick Carbone, Time Magazine)

"Dangerously funny." (TODAY.com)

This is one of those 'grumpy old / young man' books that are now in fashion, apparently, since the kindle lists seem to be awash with them. This has some very funny moments, but unfortunately the kindle edition is so hard to read that it takes away much of the pleasure, not to say robs the reader of any instantaneous risible reaction by the time s/he has pored over, enlarged, and homed in on the fuzzy cartoon images and their apparently handwritten captions. Remove the cartoons, which add nothing to the satire anyway, and reproduce this as a text-only book for kindle owners, and you might have an even greater following than already exists.

I was disappointed with Oatmeal's book about why my cat is plotting to kill me but bought this book anyway as I enjoy the internet comic and wanted to support the author. I was glad I did. I had seen some of the comics before but I read it on the train to work today and it had me genuinely laughing out loud at some of the comics.

If you like the comic on the internet then a definite buy even if you will have seen some of the content. This would also be a great gift for any of your not easily offended friends :-)

I've been following Matthew Inman's work on Facebook and the Oatmeal site for a while and was very happy to get this extended collection of his stories. I love Inman's depiction of road rage and angry people in general. The admiration shown for some less known amazing creatures like the mantis shrimp and the tapeworm makes for a good pause in the madness, rudeness and hyperbole that fills the remaining pages of this book. Other than for the crowd who looks for opportunities to be offended, this book is recommended for everyone from 15 to 150 years old.
I bought the ebook version, works great in my Nexus 7, not at all in the Windows 8.1 reader (as of Q4 2013).

I bought this book for my girlfriend as we are both fans of 'The Oatmeal' web site, and the book is a great extension of that.
It is hilarious as so many of the comic strips are a great observation on life, but with a sense of humour. Well worth a read and a chuckle! top stuff!

It took me two attempts to get into this book so I'd recommend that you stick with it until at least 1/3 the way through. But I was glad that I went back- I devoured the second half in one sitting. I'm not going to put and spoilers in this review, simply to say that I was in a public place and had to stop myself laughing out loud a couple of times. Not uproariously funny throughout but worth the effort.

If this was posted for sale under "Aesop's fable updated", then you may just have a clue as to the moral of the story - not really what it looks like, I was expecting a comedy of sorts, yet got a "don't be angry all the time my Bear" telling off in a book that I thought I could read to my kids...

Its not just the brilliant observational social comedy that has you identifying and rolling on the floor with laughter, but the brilliant colourful art as well that has you grinning from ear-to-ear.
I am so happy The Oatmeal has taken off as a much loved site, brand and shop, it is so well-deserved.
This is a really nice collection of some of the best comic-strips / cartoons from The Oatmeal, and you get a free poster folded amongst it's pages as well.

Go to [...] - fall in love with the comic genius - then buy the book.

Long live The Oatmeal. :)
