Product Description

Since the release of her Ruf Records solo debut 'Dreamland Blues' Erja Lyytinen has been busy honing her sound with well over 150 concert appearances throughout Europe. With each performance she's reached new fans and made believers out of even the most skeptical of observers. One of Finland's brightest musical talents, this is her boldest, freshest and most varied effort yet. She features a wider range of song styles than ever before. To do this, she enlisted the help of the musicians who know her best - here she is accompanied by her own road band after a pair of CDs she recorded with session players. The new album was produced by her long-time rhythm guitarist Davide Floreno and recorded by Kimmo Antikainen, who engineers her live shows. Lyytinen wrote eight of the 12 tracks and co-wrote another two with Floreno. She mixes hard-edged blues with modern R&B and also showcases her knack for delicate, poppy melodies. Two carefully-chosen cover selections blend nicely with the original material. Erja puts a fresh face on Tony Joe White's "Steamy Windows", making you forget the song was ever recorded by Tina Turner. And with "Rollin' and Tumblin" she tackles an all-time blues classic. "I have been playing this song for years, so I would say this is a Finnish approach to the song," she grins. One listen, though, will tell you that Erja's trips to the Mississippi Delta have rubbed off on her.

This is a very varied and mostly original selection of songs from Erja. She is young and has everything going for her.

The album is like a rainbow, which contains every shade of the blues. Erja is certainly in the grip of the blues, but delivers anything from heavy to quite light nuances.

Erja starts off with an instrumental bluesy tune, which shows off the instrumental skills of her and her musicians. The CD contains a great and innovative interpretation of Steamy Windows - don't miss it!

Most of the songs have been written by Erja, who herself also plays a key role on all the tracks, taking care of both the slide, acoustic and lead guitar, not to mention vocals.

There are heavy, downright bluesy songs such as Rollin' & Tumblin', but also songs of a very different nature, ranging from very gentle, eg `Inner Beauty' and `Voyager's Tale', to R&B.

At times you could be mistaken for thinking Erja was turning into Imelda May, when she sings more poppy songs. That just goes to show Erja's talent and versatility.

Erja is a great guitarist and singer; she plays and sings the blues brilliantly on this cd. Great slide guitar on 'Broadcast', nice laid back sound on 'Unreachable' I've seen her live and she is fantastic; this cd and Dreamland Blues are my favourite blues cds, playing blues guitar is what she does best.

Good service from Amazon,as always, you are a good mail order company. Not a particularly interesting CD. Not very original or inspiring, although she is a good musician, maybe not a good songwwiter yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is really good 8 April 2010

Erja Lyytinen is a young Finnish blues guitarist and singer. She also writes her own material, with 10 of the 12 songs here her own compositions. She is very good with her singing, guitar playing and songwriting and this CD is a real treat. This CD features a few more slow blues numbers than her earlier music but they are also done very well. Finland is not exactly known as a hotbed for blues music so she may not get a lot of airplay here in the US but she is very talented.

I will not try to dazzle you with a lot of verbage. But this lady can sing, and play a great guitar. "Steamy Windows" brings back memories. This is a good Cd. If you like a good lady guitar slinger, Erja will fill the bill.
