Product Description

Ridiculously over-engineered? Or the perfect case for your iPad mini no matter where you're headed? We think it's a little bit of both. Simply put, the Griffin Survivor Case is the most protective case we've ever built. Tested and certified to meet or exceed US Department of Defense Standard 810F, Griffin's Survivor Military-Duty Case is designed from the inside out to protect your iPad mini from extreme conditions ... dirt, sand, rain, shock, vibration and a host of other environmental factors. Survivor is built on a shatter-resistant polycarbonate frame clad in rugged, shock absorbing silicone. A built-in screen protector seals your Multi-Touch display from the outside environment, while hinged plugs seal the dock connector, camera lens, headphone port, hold switch and volume controls. The included stand clips on, then folds open for landscape viewing and typing. Survivor is independently tested and verified to meet or exceed environmental testing standards for blown rain, blown dust and grit, vibration, shock, temperature and humidity. 5.0 out of 5 stars Ipad mini case 6 Dec. 2012
Verified Purchase
Excellent item strongly recommended, I have a two and four year old who use the ipad having this cover is a must and a relief as it keeps it safe from bangs and bumps. Makes the ipad a little heavy but it's safe. I have a griffin case on my iPhone for 18 months now and it's like new survived many falls, griffin survivor cases are quality products. Also excellent supplier to deal with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid case 13 Jan. 2013

You have a new very elegant piece of tech, the question is just how far should you go in protecting it? I know people who spurn any type of case on the basis that it ruins the devices lines, preferring to rely on insurance cover although personally I can do without the inconvenience of being without my gizmo while its being replaced. Besides, I need a workhorse, not an objet d'art so appearance isn't an issue for me.

Smart Covers and other slimline cases are all very well, they may preserve the device's elegance but they are far from child proof let alone dropping onto a hard floor resistant. My four year old has taken a fancy to my iPad and abuses it at every opportunity.

I think that for many people the choice between Griffin and Otterbox will be an entirely subjective one until more long term user feedback becomes available i.e. how well the cladding stays in place and doesn't stretch. It has in my opinion slightly cleaner lines when fully assembled, the Otterbox appears to have sticky out corners with the screen protector/stand in place but if you don't routinely use it then that won't be an issue. My experience of Griffin cases for other devices was the deciding factor.

It's easily put together, the integrated screen protector doesn't appear to interfere with input (I also use a Boxwave stylus quite happily with it) and the detachable stand is so discrete that I tend to leave it in place. Button function is crisp and I haven't had to trim anything as I have had to with some other cases. In my opinion it makes the iPad mini more comfortable to hold being a bit chunky.

EDIT: One year on and no complaints. The cladding is a tiny bit loose and I have taken out the integral screen protector in favour of one that sticks to the screen itself (dust tended to find its way under the integral one).

3.0 out of 5 stars Could be Better. 3 Aug. 2015

Bought this case as I thought it would be the cutting edge case on the market.Have to say once it arrived and I fitted my iPad mini I was rather disappointed.Yes it protects the case pretty well and all the ports are covered by flexible hinges, but it's rather over fiddley to fit and the rubber surround became looser the more it was taken on /off.The plastic screen protector was very poor and looked like it had a film of grease on it all the time.Maybe look at the Otterbox case as a comparison when purchasing.Overall I would rate it about 6/10.

4.0 out of 5 stars Protective Case That Doesn't Disappoint 3 Jun. 2014

This is my second Griffin Survivor case. The first one was for my iPhone which kept my phone as new even after two years. And I have dropped it several times.

This time I have bought Griffin for my new iPad Mini. I have read some reviews that said the product they received was a Chinese knock off, but I have received the real McCoy. Best to read the titles carefully when searching for Griffin Survivor cases, the imitation ones can be picked out easily. Also if the price is too good to be true, it is probably fake.

Ok, here is my review:
The rubber case does give up a bit of fight to get on the iPad but one it's on, it fits like a glove. The only fault I can find so far is the stand that comes with it. It is not easy to pry it open...but once you work out how to open it, it works.

I can now throw my iPad into my rucksack without the worry of scratching or breaking it.

Good strong case and very good I left my iPad mini on top of my car and drove off after traveling 2 miles in 1hour panicking thinking I lost it. It was still on the roof and also keep dropping it and it's never broke other than a small crack on case

4.0 out of 5 stars A Saviour 12 Jun. 2013

Bought this for my son's IPAD he is 7 and Autistic so therefore he can be less than careful with an expensive bit of kit! After being dropped, thrown, stood on and routinely having liquid splashed on to the screen, I am happy to report that his IPAD mini is still working well after six months of mistreatment and I am convinced that this case is the reason. Rugged, tough and built to last are the manufacturers claims and I cannot disagree, a wise investment for any IPAD mini owners.

There are some minor niggles though which some of the other reviewers mention: it can end up with smears on the screen saver as air gets trapped under the screen and the only way to get it off is to take off the front cover and wipe it down then dry before you re-apply; getting the cover off is also not as easy as it was for the larger Griffin case for the IPAD; in addition the stand is difficult to open for a little while until it loosens up.

All of the above aside this case has prevented some serious mishaps and I am eternally grateful, don't get me wrong I do not advise testing the manufacturers claims, but after some inadvertent domestic testing by my little boy it is still doing the job it should.

Delighted with this purchase. Bought it for my son as he has a habit of dropping ipods etc and smashing them. No chance of this smashing even if dropped as it is so well made and protects the ipad so well. Would definitely recommend.
