Product Description

Product Description

GreenPan is a Belgian Cookware manufacturer which is the first to launch PTFE free non-stick cookware.

The GreenPan family brings you ranges of beautifully designed, technologically advanced cookware pieces with a unique environmental message: Each of our products makes a serious commitment to your Health, your Convenience and the Environment.

Health:
Thermolon & trade; is a natural ceramic non-stick coating made from minerals instead of plastic synthetics!
It contains no PTFE/PF0A!* So if you accidentally overheat your pan, even up to 450°C / 850°F, you will not release harmful fumes, and the coating will never blister or peel.

Quality & Convenience:
Independent tests have proved that GreenPan performs outstandingly across a whole variety of tests – Food release, Hardness, Abrasion resistance and Heat resistance.
Greenpan's Thermolon coating is an excellent heat conductor. This gives you superb searing, browning and crispy frying!
Our cookware allows you to cook evenly on low to medium temperatures, which makes your GreenPan great for your energy bill & the environment!

GreenPan by name, green by nature:
As there is no PTFE in the coating, no PFOA can be emitted in the environment!
The Thermolon coating is applied in one coat at lower temperatures meaning less energy is used - the application creates approximately 60% less CO2 emission compared with the production of PTFE-coated pans.
We use recycled stainless steel for handles and recycled material in the aluminium bases.
Even the packaging is mostly made of recycled materials, with minimum use of ink!

In short, GreenPan products are healthy, easy and eco-friendly!

The Kyoto range offers you a true alternative to traditional PTFE based non-stick cooking. With a classic design and exceptional non-stick performance the natural ceramic coating is guaranteed for two years and will not blister or peel. The body and handle is guaranteed for five years.

*PTFE: PolyTetraFluoroEthylene / PFOA: PerFluoroOctanoicAcid - Neither of these are in the GreenPan Thermolon coating

GreenPan Care and Use Instructions

Read all safety information carefully and thoroughly before using this product!

1) Important Safeguards
•    Do not allow children near the stove while you cook.
•    To avoid injury always use caution when handling hot pots.
•    For safety reasons never leave cookware unattended while in use and make sure the handles do not extend over the edge of the stove.
•    Do not allow handles to extend over a hot burner, because the handles could get hot.
•    The handles of your cookware are constructed to minimize heat transfer; Nevertheless, lids and handles may become hot during prolonged cooking. Use caution when removing lids or lifting with the handles.  Touch lightly to be sure the handles have not become hot.  Use oven mitts or potholders if necessary.
•    Always use oven gloves when removing pans from a hot oven.
•    Where Bakelite handles or stainless steel handles with silicone are fitted or glass lids are used always check their temperature resistance before using in an oven.

2) Usage Guide
Before First Use:
•    Remove all packaging materials and labels (please recycle rubbish properly)
•    Wash in warm soapy water; rinse and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.

Cooking:
Recommendations in order not to warp your GreenPan product:
•    Do not preheat on a high setting.
•    When preheating a pan, never leave it un-attended.
•    Do not allow the pan to boil dry.
•    Do not put hot pans under cold water immediately.

Recommendations for energy-saving and best cooking and frying results:
•    Cook on a burner that is approximately similar in base diameter to that of the pan you have selected.
•    When cooking on gas, adjust the flame so it does not flare up the sides of the pan.
•    Use low heat to warm foods, simmer or prepare delicate sauces.
•    Heat settings are very important.  Lower heat settings are not only good for energy-saving but also avoids the pan becoming too hot. The nature of ceramics is to hold and distribute the heat more effectively, helping some protein-rich foods cook more quickly.
•    For energy-saving, do not use your dishwasher to clean your cookware.

Recommendations for best food release:
•    Always start with a clean pan.  Wash carefully with a soft cloth or sponge and be sure that you have removed all traces of cooking oil and food before you store your pan.
•    Remove food from the refrigerator 10 minutes before you intend to cook or fry.
•    Do not drop the pan on the floor, and take care not to wrap or bend the pan as this may deform the ceramic non-stick coating, resulting in loss of non-stick properties.
•    Remember to pre-heat your pan and allow the oil to heat for a minute before you add food to the pan.
•    If food sticks to the pan during cooking, add a small amount of water to the part of the pan that the food is stuck to.  Adding moisture will create a burst of steam that should lift any food stuck to the pan.

•    Note: After a while it is normal that non-stick properties will reduce.  This process can be accelerated by prolonged exposure of the non-stick surface to high heat during cooking owing to carbonisation of food and oil. The patented Thermolon & trade; non-stick technology can withstand accidental over-heating up to 450°C/850°F for short periods, which is a safety feature.  This means that if you do accidentally overheat your pan, no toxic fumes will be released. Moreover, the coating itself will not blister or peel.
When the non-stick starts to fade, the thick high density ceramic undercoat allows the pan to be used just like cast iron enamelled pans.

Cooking oils and fats:
•    We recommend using oil or butter. Remember, some oils and fats burn at lower temperatures.  Fats and oils work in various temperature ranges.  We recommend extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil; they are healthier and have a relatively high burn point.
•    Because of the excellent heat conductivity of your pan and the Thermolon layer, food and oil carbonize very rapidly.  So always cook on low to medium heat and only use high heat for searing or browning.
•    Do not use oil sprays.  These sprays cause residue build-up that is difficult to remove from all types of cookware.
•    When applying oil, always give the oil a nice even rub onto the surface of the pan.

Utensils:
•    Never use metal utensils on any non-stick surface.  Bamboo, plastic, rubber or other wooden utensils are recommended to prolong the life of the pan.
•    Do not cut food whilst it is in the pan.

3) Care and Cleaning:
•    Your GreenPan product is very easy and convenient to clean.  In the case of dishwasher use, the non-stick properties of ceramic non-stick coatings can be broken down by the hardness of the water and aggressive alkaline detergents that are commonly used in a dishwasher. To preserve your pan we recommend that you simply wash it in warm, soapy water.  Rinse and dry with a soft towel or kitchen paper.
•    Allow the pan to cool and then clean it thoroughly after each use.
•    Always ensure the pan is clean before you store it.
•    Plunging a hot pan into water can cause irreparable warping.
•    Halogen and ceramic stovetops – Take care to ensure that your stovetop and your GreenPan product is kept free from debris so as not to scratch the ceramic stovetop’s surface.
•    Do NOT use steel wool or nylon scrubbing pads.  For best results, clean with a soft cloth or sponge.
•    Do NOT use oven cleaner or any cleaner that is abrasive or which contains chlorine bleach.  Do NOT gouge the non-stick-coating.
•    Slight surface marks and discolorations are normal. The only difference with black-coloured coatings and Thermolon & trade; is that stains and other marks can show up more visibly on the light grey Thermolon surface.
•    If black deposits form on your non-stick coating this is likely to have resulted from prolonged exposure of the non-stick surface to high heat during cooking with fats and oils which can break down. This can create carbonized oil and fat films.  These factors will accelerate the loss of non-stick performance. If this happens then empty any loose food, partly fill the pan with warm water and let it come to a quick boil. Then turn off the stove and leave it to cool.  After cooling the burnt food should be easily wiped away.
For tougher burns, soak the pan in soapy water for a few hours followed by patient rubbing with a soft cloth.  Do not use any abrasive cleaners, harsh scouring pads or steel wool as this will damage the non-stick.

I bought this pan about 6 months ago and for about 2 months it was brilliant , then it started to lose its non-stick abilities. It now has non-stick properties the same as Velcro . We've used it carefully as the instructions state and it still looks as good today as it did when we bought it but everything now sticks like glue to it . Which? magazine questioned the longeivity of this coating and i have to say i wish i'd listened to them . It would be interesting to hear how other people have found this pan to perform after the same amount of time . So for me i can't give this any more than 1 star , because it was good when it was new .

Lasted pretty well at first, but the non-stick coating significantly deteriorated after about 12 months... despite following proper guidance. I suspect a lot of the good reviews were written shortly after purchase, at which point the defects wouldn't be visible yet. So, take that into account and buyer beware...

I've had this pan 2 months. To begin with it was great and after use only needed very light cleaning. Then all of a sudden it turned rubbish. Everything sticks and it destroys your food which is terrible for the price paid. Annoying too as when purchased I also brought all new wooden/silicone utensils so as not to damage the pan. I would never buy another green pan. Save your money. I'm almost £100 down because i brought 3 pans, and i still have to buy new pans.

I originally purchased a large Kyoto Greenpan earlier this year and was impressed with the quality of the coating and how easy it is to clean after use. Because of this, I have now purchased the smaller 20cm version and would recommend it.

This is a great non stick pan. I have no need to use oil or butter with this pan unless it is for flavor. It conducts heat very well and it is very easy to clean. No harmful chemical smells like you can get with other non-stick pans.

A good quality pan with great non stick, fine for cooking for 1 person. Bit slow at heating up on an electric cooker.

When I first bought a green pan - small kyoto frying pan - I was delighted and amazed at the fabulous non-stick and ease of cleaning so I rapidly bought a larger one as well but sadly this delight didn't last. Despite taking great care with them, especially with utensils and cleaning only a couple of months on both stick for a past time, even with sufficient oil for most other pans I've ever used. Not only do they stick but the residue goes black is very hard to remove so they seem constantly mucky and create a lot of work. On top of which the rim of the pans has started to chip - again despite taking great care. I haven't yet tried contacting the manufacturers but having read a previous review about how good their response was I will be trying them soon. I have already replaced with another make - Raymond Blanc Hard anodised non stick, so far so good! So may end up with a lot of pans!!!

I was silly enough to believe it was non stick and after 2 weeks the non stick wore off and everything sticks - complete waste of money i would not recommend it - i bought 4 different pans and its happened to all- my advice to anyone is buy cheap pans and when they lose their non stick replace them with another cheap one.
