Product Description

Review

A message which is all the more powerful for its simplicity (The TIMES)

His book is very valuable, as both a cautionary tale and one of the most lucid accounts we have of the practical consequences of desert-island idealism (PUNCH)

Lovingly written... Heyerdahl's unquenchable sense of wonder gives this book a rare charm (Brian Masters Mail on Sunday)

This marvellous book is a plea not for a return to the ways of primitive Man but for man now to preserve the environment (The Times Libby Purves)

Sincere and unaffected... he has some perceptive points to make about man's abusive relationship with his environment (Literary Review)

Book Description

* Strong ecological themes plus a romantic dream fulfilled in this autobiographical account by the famous Kon-Tiki explorer.

Format: Paperback
This book is about Thor Heyerdahl's first adventure that would eventually lead him to carry the Kon Tiki expedition 10 years later. It tells about Thor as a young man setting off to a small and isolated Polynesian island with his new bride. A lot of funny (and scary) things happened during their interaction with the local people but they did make friends for life. The sad thing about reading this book is probably realizing that the world Thor Heyerdahl encountered then no longer exist today. Like his other books, the adventure itself was exhilirating and I felt like I should quit my job the next day and set foot exploring the world. But personally I think Thor Heyerdahl should just be an adventurer and leave the part of writing it to someone else. There are too many repetition on the facts and the story line doesn't really flow smoothly. But I still recommend this book for all of you that still have a little dream of a beautiful world.
