This movie was not a success at the box office but I think any movie with Audrey Hepburn can't be bad. It's like a movie directed by Steven Spielberg, even his bad movies are good and worth watching. Audrey is such a very good actress and one of the most beautiful women of all time. Her voice is charming like anything else with that woman. Only one important feature is missing, it has no subtitle in any language. There are a lot of Audrey's fans who are not English speaking and would like to enjoy that movie.
The story concerns a young adventurer, played by Anthony Perkins, who is fleeing from a revolution in Caracas, Venezuela in the 1840's. In the jungle he meets a young girl and an old man. Their origin is a strange mystery. The young man is at first interested in the gold that the old man has knowledge of, but then of course he falls in love with the beautiful jungle girl. But their happiness is threatened by a tribe of local indians who want the evil jungle spirit Rima killed at all costs. We head to an ambiguous ending that does not follow the book.Read more ›
Having been in DVD sales and promotion since 1997, I see this complete disregard for the consumer day in and day out, not only on Amazon, but on other sites as well. Don't they realize that they are losing money -and in the financial crisis that the world is enduring at the moment- one would think they would do everything in their power to sell more of their product.
The transfer of 'Green Mansions' is very, very clean and sharp and the color saturation is good also. Oh by the way, it's a very worthwhile and entertaining movie as well, and has been one of my 'must have' Audrey Hepburn/Tony Perkins movies for a long time. I was at first hesitant to buy it as I didn't have a clue whether it would be in its original ratio or not, so I took a punt and it turned out better than I expected.
Congratulations to Digital Classics for their acquisition of this long lost MGM movie (WB Library). But please Digital Classics, for any future CinemaScope movies that are anamorphic (16x9), please make sure you make that information available and believe me, you will sell more product.
Did not dislike anything about the film, liked the fact it stuck close to the book
For any fans of Audrey Hepburn
