There are useful descriptions of Athens and Piraeus as well as all the Island. There is a helpful chart called 'Island Ratings' which compares 10 features for 74 islands. You may not think 'Tree Cover' is an important feature, but on a hot day in July it was good to know that our next destination (Kos) was rated 8 out of 10 for tree cover.
One thing the book doesn't mention: If you want to visit 'touristy' islands with lots of nightlife, go to the islands that have airports. If you want quiet 'real Greek' islands, go to the ones that don't have airports. We like the latter. A few of our favorites: Amorgos, Iraklia, Antiparos, Folegandros and Serifas.
I already had an earlier edition of this book which I had found really useful but it was well thumbed & out of date.
The new edition is just as informative, includes up to date Ferry information, good accomodation guide, maps of the Islands & transport links.
This is the only book I shall carry with me & although I have others I have found this the most comprehensive.
