Product Description

'The Greatest Video Game Music', performed by the highly acclaimed London Philharmonic Orchestra, features classical orchestrations of the best-known video game themes including Mario Bros, Call of Duty, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Halo, World of Warcraft, the incredibly successful Angry Birds and many more. It allows the hundreds of millions of video game enthusiasts to fully immerse themselves in the experience of gaming in a new way, and is the perfect gift for both avid and casual gamers. Over the last 40 years, video games have become a critical form of entertainment globally. As they have become more sophisticated and realistic, the music for them has also evolved from the simple bleeps of arcade games to robust orchestrations written for complex games on platforms like Xbox, Playstation, and Nintendo. For the first time, themes from the most popular games ranging from Tetris to Grand Theft Auto, have been recorded in the studio by a top-tier full symphony orchestra and chorus. 'The Greatest Video Game Music' is the X5 follow-up to the hugely successful 'The 50 Greatest Pieces of Classical Music'. The songs on this album, conducted by Andrew Skeet, represent 20 different video games with total sales exceeding 1 Billion units globally.

Review

''This is the first orchestral version of one of my compositions and it really comes alive. It has such a great depth and a majestic touch, and it was very emotional for me when I heard it the first time. I love it!'' --Angry Birds' composer Ari Pulkkinen

This CD is brilliant - if you like gaming music (or even if you don’t) you will love this CD

great music and very well made cover versions of many fantastic in-game music tracks no matter what type of music you listen to you'll enjoy this cd

Ok, so it's probably a niche market - classical arrangements of video game music played by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, but I absolutely love this CD.

Track 2 - "Legend of Zelda: Suite " is my triumphant going home from work on a Friday evening music.

And if you like Angry Birds - track 4 is brilliant - you can't call yourself a true gamer until you've heard the orchestral version of the Angry Birds theme.

(+10 geek points!)

I find myself easily distracted while studying, particularly by song lyrics! I bought both this album and the second album of the same series and it is absolute gold for sitting down and getting work done! Upbeat, emotionally driving, eerie, sad, jovial- every theme under the sun is evoked through these tunes. If you know the source material (i.e. the game they came from) then it's even better!

This album is very, very good! Music for video games is as serious today as music for films and this particular album is pretty special. The London Philharmonic Orchestra are just amazing, the music is rich in tone, creating a beautiful fusion of what seems very like classical music with a modern twist. I love it!

Although the album is called "greatest video game music" there are a lot of songs that are not well known at all and are not really all that good.
They could have replaced them with much better sounding songs.

Fantastic album. I heard it on Spotify, I just had to buy the CD.
I always use this to test the quality of speakers in stores. The tracks cover most ranges and can make or break a purchase depending on how good they sound!

ik heb deze cd box opgezet en was meteen verrast .
-- het geluid op mijn stereo is afgrijselijk !
ik heb wel veel beter klinkende cd s en zelfs platen .
dan scheelt het niet zoveel dat het best goede muziek is !
-- Beetje teleurgesteld .

5.0 out of 5 stars Recomendable para Audiófilos.

5.0 out of 5 stars I've read somewhere that video game music is the perfect balance for stimulating brain functions while not being distracting

I've read somewhere that video game music is the perfect balance for stimulating brain functions while not being distracting. Gave it a try through youtube and have to agree with that. It doesn't hurt that it was all instrumental and played by one of the well known Orchestras in the world. Liked it enough to actually buy the CD for both volumes. Odds are I'll probably buy any future ones as well.
