Joe (or 'Big Joe' as he later became) flirted between various RnB and Blues styles over the years ,but it is his voice that does it. He obviously bent with the musical fashions throughout his career but you can't beat a 'belter' when Big Joe Turner brings life to a song. Listen to this album. It is worth your time.

The Kansas City born blues shouter Big Joe Turner(1911-1985) appealed to a wide audience and unlike most blues singers his record sales increased during the rock 'n' roll era. He signed to ATLANTIC RECORDS in 1951 and had a string of hits in the R & B charts.
These 21 exuberant tracks were recorded with a variety of bands between 1951 & 1958 and there are many highlights including Jesse Stones' 1954 version of 'Shake, Rattle and roll' which preceded Bill Haley's inferior, bowdlerized cover.
Big Joe Turner's 'Greatest Hits' is well worth tracking down and makes an excellent companion to his 1956 'jazz-blues' classic album 'The Boss of The Blues'.
