This compilation of Hugh Masekela tracks cover 30 years from his great pop hit Grazing in the grass (1968) to the moving Mama (1997). With a few ballads (Stimela), invigorating calls (Bring him back home) and great singalong songs (Vasco da Gama, Don't go lose it baby) this is the companion album to the funkier The Collection.

Saw this grand old gent at the Love Supreme Festival 2015 in the south of England. I was vaguely aware of his anti-apartheid credentials. He's small in stature with an enormous singing voice and great charisma. I bought this album directly and it always makes me feel happy! Uplifting throughout, some of it seems to be inspired by electro-funk period Miles Davis but mostly has an authentic South African feel.

It's Hugh Masekela, it's a best of, therefore it is a five star. Only question is why was this not a double CD. Township music that makes you feel good but tells stories of oppression at the same time, also songs that celebrate Africa too. Great to see that he is still gigging in his seventies, even more wonderful live that he is recorded.

As a S.African living in England, this CD took me back to 'township' sounds and the music of the struggle and good times that followed. If you dont dance to at least one of the tracks on this you must have no soul!
