The book has many black and white illustrations, usually one per page which, along with the large, clear font, make it accessible to children.
Highly recommended. Any home with young children should have a copy.
The pictures are fantastic, Paul and Anne has done a great job at managing to condense so much information into short, interesting chapters. One aspect I particularly like is: "In the next chapter we will look at ..." - it makes the book hard to put down and helps it to flow.
The typeface is large and although the text is uncomplicated; as you would expect from a book written for primary school aged children; it is very informative. The abundant illustrations, in black and white, are very detailed encouraging the reader to inspect them closely.
I think it will be a useful addition to any primary school classroom, enabling teachers and children alike, to reference what happened and when it happened (in Britain) during the last 2000 years.
Very useful for quick reference besides being a faster read than Our Island Story - and far more objective! Just the facts and none of the flowery language and subtle author opinion.
An accompanying activity book.would be a great idea.
