I am completely lost. My original edition has at last fallen to pieces after 35 years of constant use. There are so many choices, and so many dishes that it has been a necessity in my kitchen, and now that it is out of print I hope that you can persuade the publishers to reprint. The New Great dishes of the World, though a more attractive book is not a patch on the original. Only about one tenth of the numbers of recipes, and nothing like enough choice. Come back Original Great Dishes of the World.

A simple plea to publishers.... I regard this as a great cookery book primarily because it's one that I cook from again and again. What that means in practice is that I need a copy that will stay open without being held open and which is well-produced enough not to get wrecked by spillages and ingredients flying around the kitchen. A paperback will not cut it. If publishers are in any doubt as to whether there's a market, just look at how much used hardback copies are going for.

Like the previous reviewer I need another copy because mine's falling to pieces. Great book, with everything you need to know. Despite dozens of other glossy hardback cooking & recipe books in our possession, I always come back to this one. Please publish again - at least for me and the previous reviewer!

Ive been looking for this for some time as my own copy (from the 1960s) really had reached the end of its useful life. The recipes are old-fashioned for modern times but some of these dishes are really the best Ive tasted. Robert Carrier cooks with plenty of cream and butter; the recipes are reliable, flavoursome, probably unhealthy by todays standards, - OK for the special occasion - but wonderfully rich and luxurious. Try the recipe for steak and kidney pie, you'll never find a better one. great for dedicated foodies who like leafing through the great chefs.

This little hardback book is a wonderful replacement for my worn oId worn out paperback copy. It is the same in size, content, illustrations and page by page receipes ..... I didn't have to learn to find my favourites!
Whilst it is not the easiest book out, it is fantastic in content.

I bought this as a replacement for my husbands copy that he has had (and used constantly) for at least 35 years. His copy was falling apart after all that time but was still the book we looked at when we wanted the best recipe.
Other cookbooks are more colourful or follow the current trends, but this one gives the classic recipe. Like Jane Grigsons Vegetable and Fruit books, and the Good Housekeeping cookbook, this deserves a place on any kitchen shelf. It is a shame it is out of print.
The only complaint - as the pages are not all loose in the 'new' one, it does not stay open on the page so easily! Oh well, another 10 years of use should cure that.

I've been using this book for 40+years. It's superb. Follow the recipes and you can't fail as far as I'm concerned. I bought this copy for my son who loves cooking
