Having been brought up on a diet of exotic Attenborough adventures, it can seem that the UK is the poor relation in wildlife terms, but a flick through this book will soon correct that view. The text provides a narrative seasonal approach, so you can tell what is happening at each time of year and why, with some side-by-side comparisons. The fantastic photos really bring the book to life, ranging from surprising close ups such as wood ants squirting formic acid, to double page panoramas and satellite shots.

You really will look at British wildlife in a new way - and the resource section at the back tells you where to go out to find it. You can even see what it took to make the BBC series which the book accompanies in the 'Behind the Scenes' chapter.

We live in a beautiful country and the seasons distinguish it from any other so it is terrific to have a book that shows each season off in all it's glory. The photography is truly stunning and it's a book anyone of any age will love to look at time and again. I shall be buying this for all my friends and family for Christmas!

The Great British Year is one of the most stunning wildlife books I've seen! Absolutely amazing photography accompanied by beautifully written chapters by Stephen Moss. Both my children are transfixed by the images and we have agreed to buy a copy for my nature-loving mother-in-law for Christmas. A wonderful present for any wildlife lover as it expertly guides you through the seasons showing how truly magical Great Britain and all it's wildlife is.

A very good book following British wildlife thru the seasons.
The book is packed with stunning photos of Britain's wild animals and insects.
It is a good accompaniment to the BBC series.
A recommended read for anyone who watched the series or for nature lovers in general, very informative.

A little disappointed but probably my fault. i had thought the book would be more of a guide to where to see Britain's wildlife according the the time of year. It is basically a photo book, packed with beautiful photos but very little information about where is the best place to see anything. One page at the back lists 20 locations only.

What an amazing book, if I could give it 100 stars I would. It is very thick and is packed full of amazing photographs and information. I bought it to use the photographs for practise in painting British wildlife but this book gives you so much more, it is truly superb and great value for such a heavy tomb.

Anyone with a love of nature or an interest in wildlife photography should buy this book. It is an utter delight! It takes you on a wonderful wildlife journey through Britain detailing what the nature of our islands goes through during the different seasons. Chapters are entitled Winter into Spring, Spring into Summer, Summer into Autumn, Autumn into Winter and is filled with many stunning photos and interesting and informative text. There is also a section at the back called Behind the Scenes which tells you how they made the TV series which accompanies the book and a very useful piece on specific places to watch wildlife and also key wildlife wonders that are musts like the dawn chorus, deer rut, where to see bluebells, kingfishers, red squirrels, seal colonies etc etc! Excellent book!

Beautiful photos complement a very interesting book. As others have said, it pays little attention to other parts of the UK, but a good buy nevertheless. Pity the BBC haven't issued a DVD in this country.
